We (family of 5 – kids aged 18, 15 and 11) visited for 5 days just as the ski season opened in December 2023. We were on a Luxury Escapes 5 night/4 day ski lift package. We chose Lotte Arai as we heard it was an excellent place for beginners. Unfortunately our experience was not positive. Luxury Escapes were not transparent at the time of booking that we were right on the cusp of season opening, which would have influenced our booking decision. Weather was not favourable and unfortunately the snow was not sufficient to fully open on 15/12 as planned (not LE or Lotte Arai's fault of course). This coupled with a broken chair lift (which Lotte Arai did not disclose - we only discovered when we arrived) and another chair lift that couldn't run due to lack of staff, meant our ski options (as beginners) were limited to one 350m run. 4 days of limited ski options at top $ was incredibly disappointing and no way reflective of the quality experiences we had with LE previously. We stayed in a lovely room in the Lodge part of Lotte Arai resort. Spacious comfortable room, somewhat tired bathroom. The resort is a hodgepodge of different buildings that connect only on different floors (it seems the property has grown organically over 30+ years with no real thought to full integration). Navigating from the Lodge to breakfast and the onsen took some planning, especially as one part was almost outdoors, in freezing conditions. Meals were at the buffet styled Plate restaurant in Lotte Arai Hotel (a full 700m walk involving a lift ride, outside (albeit undercover) walk and flight of stairs from our room) which was more akin to 3/3.5 star standard. On the plus side the bus transfer to and from Joetsu-Myoko train station was great; we really enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Japanese restaurant Asahi and the outside onsen was lovely. The separately run Myoko Snowsports school is exceptional and the resort's ski hire enterprise rents quality gear. Plus our step count walking around the various buildings was high! Lotte Arai staff were warm and tried to help best they could. But truthfully for a resort claiming to be 5 star, staff were not as polished or proficient, as elsewhere on our Japan trip. Communication in advance to organise meals etc. was difficult - often multiple days' wait for response and sometimes no response at all. We did speak to the Manager on duty on our last day to offer feedback. He was pleasant and listened. He offered a bottle of wine and free access to swimming pool and indoor climbing wall. Luxury Escapes similarly listened to our concerns and offered a $300 voucher for next booking. On a $4.7k booking it felt more symbolic than significant. All in all the most disappointing days of our holiday. We spent A$6k incl. ski gear on a ”special deal” - it was by far the worst value on a 3.5 week holiday trekking around Japan.

I stayed at the Route Inn Hotel everywhere, but it was old from what to what. The key to the room was a key hole key that was not auto locked, and there was no outlet to charge the bed, and the alarm clock was also at the desk and was inconvenient. The public bath was narrow and the dressing room was so narrow that it became dense. The salvation was usually clean and clean. It was very good that the next door was a convenience store.

We had a wonderful stay, the Ryokan is very nicely located in a small mountain village from where you can walk well and relax in the Onsen. The family has welcomed us warmly and cared very nicely about us, so we felt like at home. We would very much like to come back and can recommend it very much to spend time here! The food was wonderful too! Small tip: don't miss the last bus from Tsubame Onsen back to the hotel :) Thank you for everything!

The room after moving is said to be, the fixtures are three places, the interior is broken, the curtains are severe and the stains are large, and the towel hanger is broken and broken The shower in the room has only wet almost cold hot water, hanging futons and sheets with stains. I couldn't get satisfaction that was very good for the price. The meal was good in volume and taste. However, if it was not suitable for one item, and it was left with the couple and put it at the end so that it was easy to get down, it was returned to the oshiki (Japanese ranchon mat) to the person who brought the dessert. It is the first time that the thing placed at the edge of the table was returned to the middle of the bed.Anger I think that if management is difficult, I should put my heart into the education of employees. On the morning of the first night, during the breakfast, the lady and the owner saw a greeting, but it seemed to be whipped to the old body and played a role, and I couldn't say the dissatisfaction that I stayed overnight in a different room. In addition, the front desk staff cannot hit the cash register when buying souvenirs, and cannot try to hit the cash register without inserting the key of the cash register. The end of the day to call a young person and wait for a few minutes. And the younger one who replaced me was apologizing after hitting the register. The front desk or manager who waited for you? I don't say ”I've been waiting for you and I'll respond to the replacement.” When I booked a family bath, I found that the source was long, but it was hot, and the hot water of the bathtub was spilled out until the waist hurts with the washbasin, and it was not good to put it in the shower water. It's terrible, although there is a time limit. If you say that heat, if you were in zabun, you were burning. Absolutely next time, I will make a different inn. Even if there was this inn until next time

Strategic location with the best deal of Japanese style hotel in Myoko, Niigata!

My family of 5 stayed here for one night. First, when I arrived at the inn, I was warmly welcomed. I was shown to my room, and when I told her I would like to know when the private bath was available, she said she would call the room to confirm. However, no matter how long I waited, the phone did not come, so I gave up and took a bath in the regular public bath. Even though I had planned to reserve a private bath for Ji****ba's room when I made the reservation, there was no confirmation at the time of reception at the beginning, and when I asked about it in the evening, I was told that there were no more free times. It was very disappointing. The meal was very filling, and the salt-grilled sea bream was the best. It was a dish with a ratio of about 8:2 between mountain and sea food. The chestnut rice came out first and I was so full that I regretted not eating the last sukiyaki, so I regretted not eating the rice while I was eating. Thank you for the meal. However, let me say one thing: I was a little surprised that the dinner menu for elementary school students was a children's lunch. Fried shrimp, fried chicken, hamburger, miso soup, and rice. The price is quite reasonable for elementary school students, so I thought that a menu with fewer items would be more of a treat for adults. The hot spring water was very hot as it was summer. It was so hot that I couldn't stay in it, but the quality of the spring water was so good that my skin became smooth. It looks like winter will be a little warmer. It was quiet and comfortable at night. When I checked out, I was told that the Niigata Discount would be applied, but I was not given enough explanation that I would have to cancel all the online payments I had made and pay on-site, so I canceled my online reservation. I was suddenly told that I would like to process the payment and repay it in cash, but since I usually use cards and electronic money, I happened to have cash on hand this time, but since the amount was the amount, I wondered if it would be enough. I was so excited. I tried to pay by card on the spot, but was told that only MasterCard could be used. Please be careful if you want to pay by card. Overall, I was satisfied with the inn, but there were a lot of things that were noticeable, and I was particularly not happy with the final checkout, so I gave it 3 stars.

Great stay at a Japanese bed and breakfast style accomodation. Owners are an elderly Japanese couple who speaks average English but we get by. Free transport to and fro ski slopes even though they are a 1.2 km walk away from Akakura Onsen main street. Owner was also kind enough to drive us to the train station for our rest day from snowboard. Breakfast was great! Room had attached toilets and were super clean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Will stay here again next time I come to Myoko Kogen

Ume-chan, a signboard cat sitting in the place next to the front desk, will welcome you when you arrive. It is a child who was listed in the book ”Neko Onsen”. The building of the inn is old but clean. The inn itself is small, but the room is small. If you dare to complain, I don't think you need to install a unit bath in each room with that size. The toilet in the room is not easy to use because the unit bath was forced to be installed. It was a plan with dinner and breakfast. The situation of the meal is the impression that it is a luxurious version of the meal of the guest house. Perhaps because of weekdays, I stayed only in one group with 々 on the day. Perhaps because of that, the meal seems to have been different from the standard form of this inn. As an impression, I wanted the quality of dinner to be improved even if the number of items was reduced a little. I thought the breakfast was very good. The customer service was very polite. We stayed with 4 people, but one of them had an urgent need and was able to return to Tokyo the next morning, so we were able to take care of the breakfast less 々 and drive to Saigata Station.
