Besides the WiFi and TV not working, the place is epic. Situated in a "vibey" neighborhood. The place is THE place to be! I had a great time. It was so hard to leave

There are so many positives to 12 Decades Art Hotel. The hotel itself is really cool, and has a trendy loft type feel to it. I loved the room I was staying in. It was bright, spacious and comfortable. The bed was fantastic especially after a long long flight. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and responsive on Whatsapp for whatever you needed. The neighbourhood is really upbeat. There are great places to eat steps away, and a convenience store across the street for water and snacks. There is also a club across the street if you are into that kind of thing. Some of the improvements I would recommend are some that are already in the works. The first is the front door situation. They didn't have key cards for hotel guests and were waiting on replacements from the company. However this meant that you couldn't get in - or out - of the hotel unless someone was at the front desk. There were a few instances where we were stuck for a bit waiting for someone to come back. The other issue is that the building doesn't have a generator for loadshedding. I really appreciated the flashlight they provided but if you are staying on the upper floors you have to time getting up to your room before loadshedding occurs or expect to climb 5 flights (or 7 flights for my friend) - this also limited when we felt we could leave the rooms as well. Other improvements would be that they only have the 3 prong outlets here. I don't know if this is a Johannesburg thing or not but the rest of the country has both 2 and 3 prong outlets. All the travel adapters we brought only had 2 prong so we couldn't charge our phones. Also the lamps in my room were also 2 prong so you can't plug in the lamps they have either. There was never a light in the bathroom so it was dark the whole time. I also had no problem with this myself as I am a heavy sleeper, but if you need a quiet room this place isn't going to work as the club across the street plays music late at night.

Great stay at this hotel. Had one of the upper rooms booked but arrived from North America and was on load shed time so they moved me to the Copper Room. Fantastic room and for even 4 people with the large open living space and each bedroom with private bath. The lower rooms and the night clubs will leave the room very very noisy till 2am - great if you are into that but otherwise even with ear plugs not so good. Still, like I noted fantastic room and in a great neighbourhood.

If you are looking for a good time in the mix of JHB's art and urban youth zone, this is the place for you! Great upbeat energy. Actual place: The Curiosity staff is friendly however, security staff is unpleasant which really is a let down. There are challenges with wifi sometimes. Noise is also a factor of consideration as the property is located across the street from a number of bars which operate every night. Windows arentsoundproofed so, be prepared to want to dance all night.

It exceeded our expectations, from the first day we stepped in. The staff were welcoming and informative about everything we needed to know. How the room was, was perfect and we will come back soon ❤️

This hotel is located in the heart of Maboneng on Fox Street, which is very bustling & busy. It’s very convenient as there are lots of shops, bars, & restaurants on this street. This is actually the only street that is safe to walk on around here, as I was warned by the front desk when I checked in not to walk on the other streets parallel to Fox St. There was also a sign in the front to beware of cell phone grabbers. The front desk was very helpful in providing all the information I needed during my stay. My international flight arrived at 6am in Joburg; hence I was super tired, so I really appreciated that I was able to check in early & take a short nap. The room overall was ok… simple but very spacious with a comfy bed. I liked that the big windows allowed a lot of natural light to come in. It was quite chilly when I arrived in Joburg in early June so the little space heater they provided in the room made it more comfortable. The room also has a little kitchenette, though I didn’t use it since I only stayed 2 nights. The only downside is that they didn’t have wifi when I arrived as they were still trying to get it fixed. Luckily, I bought a sim card at the airport beforehand. The next day, the front desk did notify me that wifi was back online so I was able to connect. Overall, for the location, the comfort, & the price, this is a decent place to stay for a couple of nights in Johannesburg.

I was very disappointed in this hotel. I had multiple things stolen from my room - portable chargers, adapters, a pair of nice pants, really any item that has quick and easy re-sale value. This was an inside job, when I confronted the staff member about what occurred he literally ran away from me. The security downstairs has no coordination or interest in the hotel. There's sort of a chilled out yet disengaged vibe, and the fact that someone was able to access my room and steal multiple items is very disturbing. Also the photos and everything about the place that is advertised is misleading and the owner quite frankly (of Curiocity) couldn't care less.
