I have stayed several times at this wonderful hotel. It is a hidden gem: close enough to the stupa to enjoy but not so close that you get the noise. The staff is friendly and efficient, the breakfast good and the beautiful garden a oasis of calm. My favorite hotel in Kathmandu
Nepal’s discreet charm melds effortlessly into modern comfort at the Holiday Inn Express, an experience to remember. At just 15 minutes from Tribhuvan International Airport and in the heart of Naxal, a business and social hub, it’s where we celebrate style, not miles. Offices, embassies, restaurants, top nightclubs, and casinos - you’ll find everything in a heartbeat at the best place to stay just 8 minutes away from Thamel, Kathmandu. This is where memories are made, and smart travel dreams come true.

Two small episodes: Because I didn’t pay attention when booking, the single occupancy (even though it is a king-size bed) can only accommodate one person. If two people stay, an additional US$10 will be charged per day; key hotels do not charge debits below US$5 (inclusive). He said that he was afraid of counterfeit currency, and also had extremely high requirements for the neatness and damage of U.S. dollars. I would like to share this with fellow comrades in the future to clear mines.

I lived my life in Canada, USA and Australia. Travelling is my passion. I have been to Nepal several times and visited besides Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Dullu etc and obviously have stayed at multiple hotels. In Thamel Kathmandu I have stayed in few very hotels but Hotel Osho is where I felt at home. This is my come back to this hotel for good reasons which is hard to find in Thamel. The location is the best and closest to everything in a quiet street. The hotel is very clean with helpful friendly staff. House keeping is excellent. Perfect terrace to relax comparing to many other hotels. Warm heated reception with first class facilities. Please contact Bishnu and he resembles his given name lord Vishnu, he solves all your problems. A friendliest hotel client representative I have ever met in Nepal. He was so open with pricing and kept his words with no strings attached etc eg tax .He even bought a digital scale to weigh my luggage. The facility does not have a lift service but the staff takes care of the luggage. I strongly advise that don’t waste your time searching just book Osho and try try believe me you will not regret. For sure I will return again as it is my second home when I am in Kathmandu, for this stay of 5 weeks still feels short.

New Hotel with Great Roof Top View, needs to improve.
Room is nice, smells new, however bed sheet is completely new , itchy , it’s like just bought and not washed , direct to the bed or been there dusty for long time. Towel is dirty white, not convenient.
Water is totally disappointed, Color yellow, un-filtered and smells. Need proper filtration.
Massage, all is new, bed is sounding haha , no music , no aroma for 8k local currency, 1 hour, masseuse was good.
Food some are great, some are tough.
View is the best for this hotel, but they open only afternoon to 10.. if you are sunrise person , this hotel is not for you. Sun set was great.
Staffs are friendly, however next visit should be more thoughtful on guiding guests, where is elevator, what are facilities and hotel can offer.
Breakfast was fair, price is recommendable.

Outstanding
GGuest UserAn unforgettable and warm hotel in every aspect! Clean and the food is great!
Because my family was temporarily ill and admitted to the local hospital, this hotel was only about ten minutes away from the hospital, so I chose this hotel. It is located in a government office area with good security. The hotel is designed in Nepali style. The rooms are very good and tidy. They know that I go to visit the patient every day, and they send a car to take me to the hospital every day. They always check on me and my family, which adds a lot of warmth to the pain of being here with the patient! The quality of the restaurant is also high, and many of the dishes are excellent. It is said that it is also a gathering place for government officials, so it is often full of guests! I stayed here for more than ten days and it was very cost-effective!
--The free airport pick-up is also great
GGuest UserI am on the tail end of an 18-night stay at the Lakhey Hotel in Kathmandu, and I can honestly say that it has been WONDERFUL. I've gotten to know many of the staff, and they all are warm, friendly, and gracious. The hotel has only been open for a couple of months, and it is spotlessly clean, kept that way in part by one of the hardest working housekeepers, Sumitra, that I have ever seen. The staff head, Rajesh, and his assistants, Raj Kumar and Ram, who also multitask with cooking, greet me every morning with a warm welcoming. They all will make you feel like you are part of their family. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood, off a busy street, and conveniently located near the touristy Thamel area. The rooms are spotlessly clean, modern, rather upscale, but very economical. The hotel does not have a restaurant but provides a GREAT breakfast that is way beyond what they call a ”continental breakfast” that one would get in America. Freshly cooked to each guest, it includes eggs however you like them (I loved the omelet!), freshly cut fruit, veggies, potatoes, toast with butter & jam, juice, & coffee or tea. And there is a restaurant right next door for other meals. I had never stayed at the Lakhey Hotel before, but I can highly recommend it, and I will surely return in the future. Enjoy your stay ... you won't regret it!!!
GGuest UserWe had the pleasure of staying at this exceptional hotel for a total of 6 nights, and we couldn't be more thrilled with our experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff displayed an authentic and warm hospitality that made us feel truly at home. Their genuine friendliness and willingness to assist with every request went above and beyond our expectations.
One of the highlights of our stay was the remarkable cleanliness and tranquility of our room. It was evident that great care was taken to ensure a pristine environment, allowing us to relax and unwind in utmost comfort. The icing on the cake was the superb internet reception, which allowed us to stay connected seamlessly throughout our stay.
Our stay was punctuated by delightful mornings indulging in an exquisite breakfast spread. The puri or chapati and curry quickly became our favorites, perfectly complemented by the aromatic masala tea and the flavorful masala omelette – a true culinary delight!
The hotel's al fresco dining experience was an absolute treat. The ambiance was charming, and the food left an indelible mark on our taste buds. With each meal, we explored a plethora of different dishes, each more tantalizing than the last. It's safe to say that the culinary offerings exceeded our expectations in every way.
A noteworthy mention is the hotel's convenient proximity to Boudha Stupa, a mere 10-minute walk away. This made our visits to the stupa incredibly convenient and allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in its serene atmosphere.
What sets this hotel apart is not only its remarkable amenities and services but also the unique opportunity it offers. The daily free yoga and meditation sessions held within the monastery on the premises are truly transformative. We highly recommend inquiring about the schedule from the attentive hotel staff – it's an experience that added immeasurable value to our stay.
In summary, our time at this hotel was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of attentive staff, immaculate rooms, delectable cuisine, and the added touch of free yoga and meditation sessions make this hotel a standout choice for anyone seeking a memorable stay near Boudha Stupa. We wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to fellow travelers looking for an unforgettable experience.
Thank you to the entire staff for making our stay truly remarkable – we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to return!
Tip: Indulge in delightful puri & curry breakfast, relish al fresco dining, rejuvenate with free daily yoga. A tranquil oasis near Boudha Stupa.
GGuest UserNice place cozy area is great Swimming pool😍 Breakfast,in room dining and services are awaome Best Cappuccino Fresh fruits fresh Juices and breakfast has alot of selections Bakery items Best hospitality Hotel staff are very helpful respectable Thanks to Ms Rashmi and Ms Rashila for their best service And thanks Khatmandu Marriot
AAnonymous UserThe hotel environment is very good, the service and hygiene are also very good. It is a very beautiful and retro hotel. It is a very satisfactory room I stayed in during this time in Nepal. The hotel is full of scenery and it is a unique world. If you have more time, you can take pictures here. When I left, I called the hotel service staff to help me call a car to the airport and told me how much it cost. When I came, my luggage was delivered to the room, and when I left, my luggage was delivered to the car. The breakfast variety is okay, but dining in the garden under the sun is a big plus.
劉劉芝羽Pros:
The service of reception and restaurant were nice.
The location is so great.
Cons:
There was smoky smell inside the room.
I wasn’t used to the food that had similar look but different taste that I used to.
The only that I really couldn’t stand with was those who welcomed me “with my name” and “helped” with my luggage at the airport required 20USD for tips. I realized at last that there is no need to tip in Nepal. And it seemed that the hotel knew the condition and let it be. Please be noticed not to tip them at such a price and separate the money.
JJason2023Pros
Great location for exploring Themal and provided you are not too high up, you shouldn't hear any road noise as it's set back. I was on the 4th floor and could hear the incessant beeping motorbikes but had moved from the first floor where i heard none (but was directly above the kitchen so could hear banging and chairs scraping from around 6am). 2nd floor is probably a good choice
Staff were all excellent
Room cleaned daily with 2 large bottles of water provided each day
Breakfast was ok - decent variety of fruit, local and western with custom eggs. Coffee was instant though.
Air con has heat facility
No deposit required on check-in
Toiletries provided
Cons
Some noise depending on your room location - dont stay in 107 or room directly above the kitchen/restaurant
No safe for passport, cash etc in room
Breakfast area isn't particularly clean i.e. dirty table cloths/mats
Poor standard of fixtures/fittings e.g. gaps in windows and doors, curtains dont quite close right, dirty shower curtain, the rooms have seen better days but for the price its still good value.
No coffee or milk in room (or 3-in one)
No phone charging point near the bed
Bathroom mat was old and dirty, no floor towel
Tips: take extra passport photo if you intend to get a sim card at the airport, unlimited data one with nepal telecom cost me $10 - signal was mostly ok.
Get your currency before you arrive or take enough to convert there, the atm machines are expensive
Taxi from airport to Themal should be around 350 rupees working on 50 rupees per km plys 30 rupees start charge.
You will be hounded relentlessly by people from the second you leave the plane for tour services etc. It may seem impolite but dont make eye contact, say no thank you and keep walking, otherwise you will spend your entire trip speaking to them.
Right now its cold at night, pack accordingly.
Be prepared to pay for everything, every temple, every place of historical interest - foreigners are charged around 1000-2000 rupees each time. E.g. all the Durbar squares, main stupas and temples.
Don't assume that because Nepal is a developing country it is cheap. It isn't. In fact i found it comparable to some developed countries and not cheaper than say Thailand. A meal would cost me around 1000 rupees. In a smaller more local place you may pay 500.
Don't take your new trainers, it's a very dirty, dusty city but exactly what you would expect if you've ever seen it on TV - it's all part of the experience.
For exploring all of the main parts of Kathmandu, id say 5 days is a good amount of time. I recommend the everest helicopter tour but on that note i will say that tours are very expensive here, more expensive than even Hong Kong, Thailand, etc!! I ended up walking to the main temples, Chandragiri, Bakhtapur for the more local experience.
GGuest UserJhapad,Rohit, Bikash, Nisto they are very kind and professional. They always checked if the food was okay and asked if he needed anything. Thank you for your care. Thanks to them, I was able to have a comfortable meal. I totally recommend the hotel breakfast restaurant.
GGuest UserNice Old Hotel, Great Staff with few needs to improve.
Swimming pool is totally disappointment. Better to shut down, than keep running and not swimmable, waist of energy. The water is dirty, no star at all.
The lobby, the room and Ghurka bar are still great.
2 power shutdowns in 1 day, I believe they are struggling with power shortages due to dark lounges.
Breakfast was so so, coffee or tea should be not a challenge to serve first, sometimes took half of meal before they come. Many Tables are not stable and aligned, egg can easily roll over to other side. Atleast 3 tables on my experience.
Room is comfortable, nice bed and always fresh linen. Only noisy from AC , maintenance team came twice on my room to fix, though transfer was offered on my last 2 days.
Managers should not standing in buffet line, either they should help the line staffs or directing the team, talking business in public is not of our guests concern.
Front desk Trainee, has good presence, I thought first he is manager.
A lot can be improved and polished, the hotel has a great potential, nice design, great facilities and great staffs. I wish that management should look all themselves and review those small details.
EEmilyWe have had an incredible stay at Holiday Hostel from start to finish, staff are great in many ways from welcoming us into the hostel to spending a lot of time with helping us to plan our months stay in Nepal. We have arranged and booked the ABC treck, Chitwan safari (prices were good compared to other companies we found) and volunteering at Maya Unviverse, a place we hadn’t heard of before coming to Nepal and thanks to Madam we had a fantastic time living and helping out with the kids and the school.
Location is great, there is a really nice rooftop bar that serves great food and drinks, make sure to try the most delicious milk tea!
Rooms are great, comfy and quite considering how busy Thamal road can get. We stayed here twice, both at the beginning and at the end of our trip in both the dorms and private room and both options are clean and comfy. We even kept some of our luggage at the hostel for around 3 weeks while we went and explored Nepal and collected it at the end with no issues at all. We also received a very thoughtful gift from Holiday hostel for completing the ABC treck, such a nice gesture. Would definitely recommend staying here and would stay again if ever back in Katmandu.
