We were a family of four (two parents and two elementary school children). The accommodation was great, so I'll comment on other related points.
The distance to Zao's Okama and Michinoku Lakeside Park was good, so we left early and didn't get caught in traffic even during Golden Week.
There was also a delicious pizza restaurant nearby, so we were able to get takeout and bring it to our accommodation for lunch, which was nice and helped us avoid the crowds.
The restaurants where you can eat closed relatively early, so we were unsure whether to go to the nearby hot springs (Aone Onsen and Togatta Onsen) first, or have dinner first. There is a supermarket near the Kawasaki Town and Zao Town Halls, so I thought it would be better to get food there and have flexibility in terms of time for meals and baths.
