Excellent location, opposite the Railway station and just round the corner from the buses. Friendly staff good food, easy walk into Kendal. Lovely walk to the castle. The room I was given as a solo guest was very large with 2 single beds set up as a King size. The hotel was in almost just decorated finish.

Not a great experience I'm afraid. Desperately in need of good staff. Waiting staff throwing toast at each other one morning. Then giving each other rude finger gestures in middle of dining room! Despite pre ordering breakfast was wrong 3 out of 4 days! Given beans when had clearly told hotel was allergic to them! No egg on last 2 breakfasts, waitress argued that I hadn't ordered it! Room on floor 3 really noisy up until midnight when it was quiet then 6am noisy clanky boilers started up, you don't need an alarm clock in this room! Asked to be moved , no joy! Left hotel exhausted due to lack of sleep. One pro, it's relatively cheap if you book through Daish. I won't be booking again sadly.

I traveled Wednesday 2/10/24,a bit of mix up with pick ups. Then while staying there I developed food poisoning on the Thursday evening with several more who had the same meal as myself,I was bad in bed for two days till I gradually improved not fully but had to vacate because it was time to leave. There was shortage of staff and my room wasn’t attended for two days, the lady at reception did phone my room on the evening of the Friday because other guests told I hadn’t been down my meals and bought me some milk then Saturday afternoon I went down for some milk. Sunday morning at breakfast because I was still feeling unwell I asked for poached egg and toast and was told that they had run out of poached egg I was flabbergasted and they offered me scrambled egg.

Enjoyed our stay at the County Hotel although we had to leave earlier than expected due to my wife contracting the Noro Virus that affected a number of people at the hotel. The location of the hotel was great the staff went out of there way to make us welcome although it was apparent that there was a shortage of staff, food and drinks were ok, the hotel was very clean and the decor is good, my room and bed was very comfortable.

The only positive to this hotel is good beds and pillows. If you want to be answered back or given a dirty look by staff this is the hotel for you. Unfortunately nothing would make me or my friend and many others we spoke to go back. We have traveled with Daishs Coach holiday several times and never had such a bad experience (well we would not have gone back) . The waiting on staff did not have any idea how to service and all wore different clothes and some were dirty and ever worn jeans and a shirt that belonged on a beach. We know this is a budget hotel but even the cheapest is better than the County Hotel in Kendal. It is up for sale but that doesn't give reason for any standards to fall.

Awful experience. I was on a Daish coach holiday and people were virtually cheering when we left. Staff couldn’t care less and made it obvious. Food passable but service worse than Fawlty Towers. Mealtimes were an horrendous experience- waiting staff not smart and literally running around, walking past dirty dishes on tables and in and out the kitchen just carrying one plate. It was not pleasant experience. Room OK but stifling hot and unbearable even though there was a fan. If you didn’t want to partake in the evening entertainment there was nowhere to sit and have a drink so we had to sit in this stifling room

Arrived at the county hotel on August 15th for 5 days. After a delayed journey because of accidents on the motorway, we were welcomed into the hotel and cases taken to our rooms. My room was very nice, clean bedding and white towels is the first thing I look for. The decor in my room was lovely and everywhere was very clean. Bathroom was spotless with a nice size cubicle shower, plenty of hot water and a heated towel rail. Meals in the hotel were good. Plenty of choice and always hot. Service sometimes was a bit slow, depending where you sat. I think whichever table was served last should be served first the next day, saves people complaining as much. The serving staff did a good job, tried their best. Entertainment, quiz and bingo every night which I enjoyed very much. All of the staff in the hotel were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure people were having a good time. If you want a nice clean hotel with nice food which is near to the town and transport to take you where ever you want to go, then don’t hesitate to book. You get what you pay for here, so if you want a five star hotel look elsewhere. Thanks to all of the staff, I had a wonderful holiday x

We travelled by Daish's coach from Worthing in Sussex on Sunday 11th August 2024. It was a long journey on one of the hottest days of the year. When we reached Birmingham district we changed coach and driver. Our new driver, Will, was then with us for the duration of our four night stay in The County Hotel. Will was knowledgeable about the area and fun. He kept us entertained by playing music for us to singalong to as well as a quiz. It took us nine hours including three half hour stops. The hotel was clean and the staff hospitable. We had a nice meal followed by Bingo and entertainment with Jason and Shirley who provided music and jokes. We stayed until the end which was a surprise after such a long day. We had a spacious room with a lovely walk in shower and LED lights around the mirror above the sink. It overlooked a busy road that was noisy but the weather was warm so we had the windows open.
