This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

Having spent my 40th year with treats from family and friends…. I was slowly running out of time to use up my final gift, afternoon tea at Armathwaite Hall. I genuinely think I left the best to last! What a stunning location, the building has plenty of character, the staff were all friendly and couldn’t do more for you! We sat outside literally in 24c heat but we don’t get many summer days! So we were not going inside. 🤣 The afternoon Tea was perfect, fresh and tasty, the cakes were delicate and the scones were delicious. After our tea we headed down the path to the lake it felt magical walking through the woods and finally a swing to finish off the day. We are both local from Ambleside and have said we would like to go back in the autumn or winter to enjoy a Spa break.

We got married here 9 years ago and have visited every year since for our anniversary, even had afternoon tea for a big birthday last year. This was our first overnight stay since our wedding and we stayed on the summer retreat deal. The venue is just breathtaking and service we have received on every single visit has been consistently excellent. However, we were absolutely blown away with our recent stay. We mentioned it was our anniversary and that we were married in the estate office - they set us up a private table in the exact spot we stood, looking out over the lake for our dinner - just wow. We were served the most amazing food and received first class service. A special thank you to Manoj the restaurant manager who was so professional, polite and attentive and helped make the evening so special and thank you to the general manager who took time to chat to us in fact every single member of staff, we just didn’t get their names. If you want a special treat in a beautiful place, we can’t recommend Armathwaite Hall enough!

What a gem! Beautiful views, top class spa and wonderful staff. Friendly and professional, they went the extra mile. We liked it so much we stayed an extra day. Travelling with our dog we appreciated the welcome. We were able to enjoy the hotel and its surroundings. Ideally placed for the lakes but plenty to do on site. For us the staff really did make the place just that extra bit special. We will be back!

My husband booked Armthwaite hall Sunday chill deal for us for our anniversary and it was just what we needed after hiking the 12 mile skiddaw route. Got a Prosecco greeting on arrival by the lovely lady at the front desk who had said we had got a complementary upgrade, beautiful grand room with a nice card and chocolates which was a lovely touch. We went to the spa for a few hours had a Prosecco in the outdoor infinity pool watching the wildlife and beautiful gardens. Had a 3 course meal in the lake view restaurant scallops , shrimp starters, duck and bass for mains and shared a cheese board and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Richard who worked there in the restaurant was lovely! Made sure everyone was enjoying their stay made it personal by wanting to know your names and if you were celebrating a special occasion. We made the most of the spa by going again in the morning before having a lovely breakfast 100% would recommend and we most certainly be returning soon

My husband and I have just returned home following a two night stay. We stayed in the Hartley Tower Suit as part of our secret wedding package. Our experience from start to finish was absolutely perfect. We could not recommend this enough. Thank you to all the staff, especially Lyndsey our brilliant wedding coordinator and the very helpful Richard.

We stayed here for a night after our wedding, what a treat! We had the one night spa escape package. The hotel is very grand with plenty of character and history. The spa is brilliant, we loved having a glass of pink prosecco in the hot outdoor jacuzzi ! Our massages were lovely, Sophia did my 'hand on heart' massage and it truly melted away any muscle tension and left me super relaxed. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Richard in particular was very friendly and personable. We had a lovely welcome and was upgraded to a garden suite which was a lovely surprise! Also lovely little note in the room saying congratulations for our marriage, which was a really nice touch. The Lakeview restaurant was excellent, the food was on another level of perfection, quality over quantity, you will not be disappointed! We had the pleasure of sitting at a table with a lake view, it was truly breathtaking! It actually made me quite emotional! Richard put us right at ease, it was a truly exceptional evening followed by a lovely stroll down to the lake through the gorgeous gardens. We will always have great memories from our mini honeymoon here. We will definitely be back in the near future. Thank you! Rachael & Joe Bowker
