Went kayaking this summer as the hotel includes this in your stay, and I had kayaked before. However, it is clear that they are assuming everyone is salt life, and does this regularly because you are completely left to your own devices. After accusing me of not being able to swim, Howie dismissed my concerns about capsizing and encountering marine life. He even said, I "would be lucky" if this happened to me. When I told him that the two employees in the office said they would never go kayaking even though they work on the property, he replied, "Don't listen to them--one's from New York and the other is Jamaican!" This comment and the other about my not being able to swim demonstrated his racially charged rhetoric. He proceeded to push me into the bay (backwards!) with a kayak that I later learned was filled with seawater and sand. After only 10-15 minutes, the kayak began to sink into the dark bay. By the goodness and grace of God, a group of young adults on a boat saw me flip over and helped me get myself and the deathtrap kayak back to shore. It took them 10-20 minutes to get all the heavy water and sand out of the kayak that had been there from the beginning. After sharing my experience with the office soaking wet, I was only told 'sorry' and offered the 10% off coupon that they offer to everyone when you are checking out! I would not recommend Sunset Cove to anyone I cared about.
