A very friendly couple who gave us a warm welcome. A quaint & quirky hotel that dates back centuries & still hosts a lot of original features.....our hosts were very knowledgeable about the area & nothing was too much trouble ..... we would go back.

First time in my life I've booked in somewhere and straight back out, first thing that hits you is the all pervading smell of old cooking oil, the next is the damp and must in the accomodation, the dereliction of this place is emmense, its like the land that time forgot, everything is held together with sticky back plastic, ceilings, walls and fittings and fixtures, the must and dampness is all pervading, even the fresh bedding felt damp, withing half an hr of arriving my husband was reaching for his inhalers and I was too even though I'm not asthmatic, I hadn't previously read any reviews as I like to give establishments a chance and yes it is budget accomodation, but if this was my establishment I'd seriously be thinking of retiring by now to protect my reputation, I can't impress enough the need to avoid

I stayed here for a night on my way down to London from up north. Yes, it's best described as 'quaint' but that's a huge part of the appeal of this place. The rooms are clean and comfortable with all the facilities anybody would reasonably want. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful, tasty and cooked to order. If you want 'plastic' accommodation, go and stay in one of the hotel chains. If you want a friendly, clean, comfortable and welcoming place to stay then this fits the bill.

Came here for a midweek walking trip, B&B. Accommodation good if old fashioned & quirky, and very good value for money. The owners looked after me very well and were able to sort out any problems promptly. Fairly standard breakfast, but plenty of it, and they also do lunches and evening meals. TV in room easy to work, likewise shower, and good wifi. Only downside was the butcher opposite starting work about 6 am! (but its a very good butcher). Would book again if returning to the area.

On arrival the lady had a very abrupt manner about her and her main concern was payment even though this had been done through other means. Appreciate the building is old and ‘quirky’ with ‘crooked walls and staircase’, I’m all for that, however the decor isn’t of a sixties theme, it’s never been changed. It’s not dusty but the neglect runs deeper. Needs re decorating throughout.

Mr and Mrs Gamble could not have been more welcoming and generous. We stayed in room 1 on our way up to Scotland and room 5 on our way home, with a very comfy bed, 3 pillowsand pristine sheets, TV, wifi, complimentary tea. coffee. hot chocolate and fresh milk, shortbread and ginger biscuits - they certainly went the extra mile! The ensuite shower room, wash basin and loo was much appreciated and convenient - altogether a warm, clean and comfortable place to stay, and very good value. Our breakfast was beautifully cooked, porridge (or grapefruit), perfect fried egg!, bacon and the rest, and as much toast as we could possibly fit in, and with excellent hot ground coffee and even hot milk! We also had a very good 3 course evening meal on our way up which was just what we needed. To cap it all we had a safe parking place at the back of this interesting old building.

Another superb stay at The Copper Kettle, It is clean and comfy, the breakfast is better than I have had at hotels that cost more than 3 times what I paid here. Peter and Pam are lovely hosts. People who write poor reviews should look at the cost, you wont get 5 star at 2 star prices. I have stayed in many flash hotels but they cost you for nothing more than a fancy front. Try the other options in Kirkby, you can brag to your friends how much it cost, I'll keep going to the Copper Kettle.

I can't understand the negative reviews on here – they come into Kirkby Lonsdale saying what a quaint little olde worlde place it is, full of charm and character, then visit the Copper Kettle and expect to find the glass and chrome uber sanitised monotony of a 21st century space station – No! No! No! The Copper Kettle is just what it should be – quaint, full of quirky character and awkward staircases, narrow passageways and creaking floorboards. It's over 400 years old – of COURSE the walls are uneven and the ceilings sag a little. For goodness sake, if you don't want the idiosyncrasies of such an antique gem, then go elsewhere! OK, so what else can I say about the Copper Kettle? It's rated 2-star by the AA, so don't expect a sauna and room service! But does it have free parking? Is it clean? Are the beds firm and comfortable? Are the hosts friendly and courteous? Is the shower spacious and refreshing? Is the water hot and plentiful? Are the towels big and fluffy? Is there free tea, coffee and FRESH milk in the room? Is the food tasty and delicious? Are the prices VERY affordable? Is breakfast included? Can you dine here in the evening as well if you wish? Does it have free broadband? Is it free of cigarette smoke and vaping? For us, the Copper Kettle ticks all these boxes. We've stayed here before and we'll stay here again. You should too! PS: to those who remark that people like me who like the Copper Kettle don't have “the same standards”, I've travelled widely on business and stayed in some of the best hotels in Washington, Tokyo, Singapore and across Europe and Scandinavia. So please keep your thoughts about my “standards” to yourself !!

Quirky building and ,yes, it probably could do with some redecoration. BUT...as clean as you can wish, excellent breakfast and the nicest hosts you could ask for. We'll go again for our next walking adventure.
