Fairfield Inn & Suites Knoxville/East

We had a reservation at the Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites Knoxville East last night. We checked in via the Marriott Bonvoy app before the game knowing we would be in late after the game. After the game we arrived at the hotel around 12am to be told the hotel was at capacity and all rooms were occupied. The front desk associate said there was one room left at the hotel, but it currently said it was ”on hold” in your system and he wasn't sure why. He asked us to wait in the lobby while he checked it out. At this point I was panicking dreading a 4 hour drive back home at midnight. Upon his return he told us we were good and to go on to the room and enjoy our stay. THAT IS IS MY FIRST ISSUE. I am a long time Marriott elite customer and usually get upgrades if anything. I find it extremely problematic that we arrived to find there was not a room prepared for us despite a reservation and mobile checkin. My next issue is that upon entering the room it was apparent it was not thoroughly cleaned or turned over. See pictures below. There was some kind of homemade sign on the mirror, the trash can still had trash in it, there was only about 1/3 a roll of toilet paper - not even on the toilet paper dispenser - and some crumbs on bathroom counter. Normally we would have immediately walked out and demanded another room, but as previously stated it was after midnight and we had already waited in the lobby thinking we possibly weren't going to get a room at all. Including a picture of mold in the bathroom as well. Overall very dissatisfied with our experience at this hotel. Definitely not up to par with standards I have seen at other Marriott locations, and will not be recommending to our friends and family in the future when in the Knoxville area.
