Our family stayed in the Planter's Cottage at Meriyanda, Coorg, for two nights, and the experience was a blend of nature, relaxation, and exceptional dining. The cottage was spacious enough for our group of three (my parents and me), and the private balcony offered the forest view. Reaching the cottages involves a steep 300m path, so using the resort's jeep, as advised by the guard, was a smart choice and I'd recommend the same. Ms. Keerthana at the reception suggested places to visit nearby and coordinated the checkin without any hassle. Food & Dining - The food was undoubtedly the highlight of our stay. The chefs prepared dishes on demand, making the dining experience highly personalized. Shreeja, who took care of us at the restaurant, deserves special mention for her exceptional service. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making our meals memorable. We tried several dishes, including the Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai noodles, and momos, all of which were delightful. The momos, paired with a sauce made from estate-grown pepper, stood out. If you're dining here, ask for Shreeja—she’ll ensure an excellent experience. Activities & Amenities - 1. Kote Abbey Waterfall & Kaveri River: Just 4 km from the cottage, this was a peaceful spot with fewer crowds in the morning. Bathing in the Kaveri River and soaking up the sun was a rejuvenating experience. 2. Spa: We tried the resort’s spa services, and the therapist, Tejas, did a commendable job. His recommendations for treatments tailored to our needs added a thoughtful touch. 3. Books at the Lobby: A pleasant surprise was the coffee table book "The Vanishing Kodavas," which delves into the Kodava culture. It’s a must-read if you find yourself at Meriyanda. Room for Improvement - 1. Room Amenities: The in-room offerings were minimal. Being in Coorg, known for its coffee, a coffee filter and locally sourced coffee powder would have been a lovely addition. 2. Initial Stocking: Basic toiletries (like toothbrush/shaving kit) should be available without needing a call to housekeeping. Final thoughts - Meriyanda is a great choice if you’re looking for a peaceful nature retreat. While some aspects of the cottage could be improved, the incredible dining experience, warm hospitality, and beautiful surroundings made the trip worthwhile. We left with happy memories and an eagerness to return—if only for the food alone! :)
