We stayed at Soma for 2 nights in the Dec end holiday season . Let me spell out the positives first . The location of the hotel , with private access to the pristine Lighthouse beach , is just terrific . The view of the seashore through the palm trees is mesmerising . The good part is that all the rooms are sea facing , as far as I know . It’s also very close to Hawa beach . The ambience throughout the hotel is nice and relaxed . The room itself was a large one , comfortably housing 4 people ( we were lucky to get this as it was a last minute booking in peak holiday time ) . On the flip side though the rooms are clearly outdated . My family and I felt as if we got transported to the 90s or early 2000s … old power sockets , old and much used bed sheets and an absolutely inadequate bathroom . The bathroom size was in total contrast to the room size … very small , unclean towels , no shower gels etc . They also made it mandatory to pay 2.5k per person for their Dec 24 Gala dinner party . However it was a huge disappointment as it just turned out to be a local cultural show with a singer belting some melodious numbers in southern languages which almost none of the guests could understand and some classical + “ cinematic “ dance performances by enthusiastic young dancing girls . The Gala dinner was just about ok , Overall , just 3 stars for this experience .
