The grounds are absolutely beautiful, but the rooms are pretty rundown. The whole experience was just fine. If you are on a budget, stay here. Otherwise, I'd recommend a different spot.

Really unique experience

The environment is very good. There are many elegant and secluded hotels with a feel in Koyasan. A few tips: 1. Not all rooms have private bathrooms. 2. The room door is not locked. The most extreme case is that someone can open the door and enter in the middle of the night (it should hardly happen). 3. Everything is charged, such as a bottle of water in the room (there is water in a small teapot in the room). 4. To have a full breakfast, just eat more white rice.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the 3-day, 2-night stay. Fukuchi-in Temple is in a good location, close to the bus station and the town center. You can visit all the attractions of Koyasan on foot. The room has a toilet, which is very grateful. Bathing is in the large bath. The hot spring cannot be compared with the hotel, but it is very good to have such facilities in the temple. The meals have to be praised. Although they are all vegetarian dishes and tofu, there are really many varieties and they are very delicate. Every meal is very filling. The staff of the temple are very nice and there is no bad service. I like the place to drink coffee in the morning. You can look at the scenery of the courtyard and be in a daze. You can go to the main hall at 6 o'clock in the morning to attend the morning class, which is very ritual. I also participated in the activity of copying scriptures in the evening, which was very quiet. Our room 49 is a bit off, but it is the highest and overlooks the entire courtyard (as shown in Figure 2). I am very satisfied with the location booked by Ctrip! This temple is very suitable for people who are experiencing stay for the first time!

Beautiful location, obviously characteristic as it is managed by monks. Sleeping on the tatami is all in all comfortable. The 2 onsen are excellent. However, both the dinner and especially the breakfast, vegetarian and characteristic, are demanding. The only negative note let's say

The lowest rating among the 7 accommodations on this trip. I don’t know if I had too high expectations before, the gap is really big. 1. A young man had no service spirit. When I had been waiting for more than 20 minutes to check in (before, an old man had been doing it, all kinds of details + foreigners had many questions, in fact, only 2 people were done in 20 minutes, and we had no place to sit while waiting for the check-in), he showed up and asked me to go to him to check in. However, he was very unskilled in business and couldn’t find our reservation for a while. After finally finding it, he disappeared while I was filling out the form. Until the old man finished the check-in, the guest behind me continued to help me... At this time, I said that I had waited for a long time and did not accept their formal apology. The young man came back and asked if you were sure you had waited that long? He kept saying that everyone had to line up... The person who finished first should have been in front of me? 2. The same young man forgot to make the mattress for us. I called to remind him after I came back from dinner at 7:40. 3. The Koyasan official website says that a room with a view and bathroom costs about 20,000 yen per person for one night and two meals. The price set by Ctrip through an agent is 1,500 yuan for two people with breakfast, no bathroom, and no view. I really don't know where such an expensive price is reflected? In addition, the problem of being very cold mentioned by other friends before should have been solved. In addition to air conditioning, there is also a heater in the room.

The room is a Japanese-style tatami room with a large area. Because the temple hotel has outdoor, indoor and carbonated hot spring pools, there is no independent bathroom and toilet in the room. I booked breakfast at the hotel, which was very ceremonial. I followed the temple monks the next morning. After the morning class, it was quite shocking; the service was also very considerate.

Public facilities are being built at the entrance of the temple, which affects the first impression. The hot springs and courtyard are a plus. Hot spring ♨️ is said to be the only all-natural one in Koyasan. Shojin cuisine is better than expected.

I really like Mount Koya, and Fukuchi-in really deserves its reputation. The hot springs are particularly good, and there are more than one kind of hot springs, including carbonic acid pools, open-air pools, and ordinary indoor pools. It was too cold in late November, so the heater had to be turned on in the room. The staff speak English very well, and there are many foreigners staying here. Morning classes and breakfast must be on time. It’s best to come back before dark in the afternoon and don’t wander around outside. Because I am traveling alone and once dark, the whole mountain becomes extremely quiet, which is a bit scary 😂 People who can't adapt to using public restrooms or can't stand the poor sound insulation should stay away. It is the shukubo of the old temple building, which is a century-old house with a wooden structure...

Nice to be in a temple BUT VERY expensive, way too expensive... The staff (monks?) are friendly but we have no interaction with them, except when meeting them in the corridors (rarely) or if they are they who serve food. So excessively expensive (more than 300 e for two for one night). Not to mention that it is impossible to go out "in town" in the evening: at 9:00 p.m. (9 p.m.), the "temple" closes and you can no longer go back! It may be a temple but we absolutely don't realize it. I didn't hear a single prayer except during the day, chanting from another temple. It's more like a business than anything else (souvenir shop, paid drinks with meals, paid coffee in the morning... in short). It would have to be done again, I would hesitate twice. Contrary to what the guides say, my Japanese friend who is also a guide explained to me that all the temples are "hotel" (and there are 108 in Koya san) = there are perhaps some that are less expensive and in which you feel more in a time than in a hotel. Very poor value for money.

I booked a room with a toilet, but Ctrip booked me a room without a toilet. It was really speechless to take the elderly out. There were no other rooms available, so I was forced to downgrade the room, but they also provided compensation. In short, the speed of solving the problem was very touching, but it would have been better if there was no mistake at the beginning.

I have stayed in three different temple shukubos. To compare, this one has a hot spring for bathing, but the rooms are older. The food is rich in style, but the taste is bland, and there is nothing to eat. I can’t feel full after two consecutive meals😿 It is a good experience to live in a temple and experience traditional Japanese courtyard life. You can listen to morning classes and eat vegetarian food.

The vegetarian food is not very good. The restaurants here close at 5:30, and the hotel provides late-night snacks until 8:00. And dinner is not available if you don’t order in advance.
