When we stayed here mid-July most of the forecourt parking area had been dug-up ready for refurbishment, so although free parking outside was still possible the first impression of the hotel isn’t great. There seems to be two wings to the hotel – one slightly older than the other in decoration and furnishings. Also, the front rooms face the main road, railway line, car park and bar exit so a bit on the noisy side. The rear and back-side rooms nice parkland – so choose your room if possible. Our room was cookie-cutter comfortable albeit a little tired. Both bedroom and bathroom were clean and functional. Breakfast food options were good although organisation haphazard e.g. four hot pans of food on a warmer with lids but absolutely nowhere to rest either the lid or the plate in your hand. Grow a third arm for serving or find a friend. Overall a good overnight stay but neither the town nor hotel would make us want to stay longer.
