Very Good

The hotel itself does not have any facilities. Basically, the scope of activities is in the room, but the room is quite big, so it is not a big problem. The design is very thoughtful, the room and bathroom even have background music, and welcome refreshments. But if you want to choose a room, you may have to arrive early. When we arrived at 5 or 6 o'clock, there were no options left, only the double room opposite the front desk. But I have to say that it may also be due to the location of the hotel. It is very quiet and equipped with The music of chirping birds and fragrant flowers has a different feeling. The location in a residential area has its pros and cons. The disadvantage is that it is very inconvenient. There are no convenience stores or supermarkets nearby. The nearest supermarket is a 10-minute walk away. It is quite windy when the weather is cold, which is not pleasant. The nearest public transportation station is 10 minutes, and the subway is almost 15 minutes. If you have too much luggage and don't have a car, I don't recommend you to check in. Or you can find a way to store your luggage before coming back.

My wife found this hotel on TikTok and wanted to go, so we stayed here for her birthday!
The room and staff were great👍
We also got a massage, which helped relieve the fatigue from walking so much!
There were lots of things to see around, so it was wonderful.

The hotel is in a quiet alley, just walking distance to Kyoto Gyoen Garden and Nijo Castle. The hotel staff is very friendly. They sent many emails to help with dinner reservations before checking in. I like it. The front desk will greet you and say hello when you go out and enter the door. The room is huge for Japan, and the bathroom has a huge bathtub. The Japanese breakfast is rich, be sure to book breakfast.

The hotel is a room in a family hotel, with a total of three floors and no elevator. You need to carry your luggage downstairs by yourself. After walking for a day, it is really tiring to climb the stairs when returning to the hotel! Not suitable for families with elderly or children traveling. This is really discouraging! But the service of the hotel is good, the room is relatively spacious, and it is far from the urban area.

Response from Property: Dear Guest, Thank you very much for writing us a review and sharing your valuable insights with us. Since our concept is based on the architecture of traditional Kyoto houses, called "Machiya", it is a pity that the hotel does not have an elevator. However, our staff will be more than happy to help you with your luggage during check-in and check-out. For older guests or those with health issues or disabilities, we are also happy to offer ground floor rooms. We hope that the absence of an elevator has not affected your experience of the city too much and that you will be able to make many happy new memories with us. Best Regards, THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West
Our stay at the Junei Imperial Palace Hotel was great and one of my very best hotel experiences. The hotel itself was very comfortable and is beautifully appointed in a sophisticated traditional style. The staff could not be more helpful and friendly and went over and above to make our stay very enjoyable. I look forward to returning next time I visit Kyoto and I’m very happy to recommend this wonderful hotel. Ratko Petrovic June 2024

Fantastic experience. Large room with bath. Great service. A lovely jazz playlist played through the in-room speaker with the option of hooking up your own device to play your music. Complimentary sweets, beer and bottled water. Minutes away from a bus stop. I would definitely stay here again.

We wanted our first trip to Japan to be special and looked for a ryokan in Kyoto. But then we found this place, where the ambience is as close as to a traditional Japenese inn but provides all modern amenities. The staff was very welcoming and recognized us every time we entered. The room was spacious and we felt at home from the first minute. Especially the small but private patio in front of our window provided a beautiful view, even when it was raining. The bathroom was even more sensational. Everyone of us enjoyed the bathtub, including the soothing music. All in all: we couldn't have made a better choice! Thanks to the JUNEI HOTEL team our stay in Kyoto was even more wonderful, that we hoped it would be.
Response from Property: Dear J4616DLlisah, We are so delighted you enjoyed your stay with us, and we deeply appreciate your lovely review. Our intention is to provide our guests with a comfortable, relaxing space to unwind, especially after a busy day of sightseeing, so we are particularly happy to know you all enjoyed our Shigaraki-yaki ceramic bathtub. It was truly a delight getting to know you and your beautiful family, and we hope you all come back to Kyoto again soon! Kindest regards, THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West

The staff make the hotel. Ignore the star rating, this is purely down to facilities, the service is 5*. The room we had was large, clean, Japanese with a modern twist. Nice little touches, but nothing compares to the service provided by all the staff. We had a week here amongst a longer tour, service and staff as good as any 5* we stayed in, and better than some.
Response from Property: Dear alanwA127TO, Thank you so much for kindly writing us a review. The staff is delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and it warms our hearts to know that we were able to provide a service up to your expectations. We hope you enjoyed the remaining of your time in Japan and had a uneventful trip back home. We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you again in the future. We had a wonderful stay at the Junei West in October 2024. I don't understand how this is marked as a 2 star hotel that's obviously wrong! The Junei is gem of a hotel nested in a pleasant residential neighborhood between the Imperial Palace Garden and Nijo-Castle. So relaxing and calm we didn't hear or see much of our neighbours. There are tons of nice off the beaten path restaurants and coffee places (we loved Story coffee) and a delightful donut shop next door (Rina chan No Hoppe) with such a gentle owner who gave the kids origamis. There is a coin operated laundry a few minutes away as well as buses, tube, kombinis etc. It certainly didn't feel as remote as some of the other reviews suggested. Sure, it's not Kyoto Station (and that's better in my opinion) but Kyoto is vast so you will be moving across town anyway to see the sites. Our view was, might as well have a very nice base. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, with enough room for a family of 5 including children who loves the futon! Awesome little attentions like snacks, tea and the hydrogenated bath made everybody happy and calm before bed. Last but not least, special thanks to an extremely well trained and lovely staff who made us feel at home from the second we stepped in. One example: we sent a suitcase from Tokyo to the hotel. Not only did the hotel place it in the room, but 48H before our departure, the person at the desk that evening anticipated that we would probably want to forward luggage ahead to the next destination and made sure to check (you need 24H notice for the transport company). Thanks again Junei Imperial Palace West people. We won't hesitate to return.
Response from Property: Dear Mr. OEG82, Thank you so much for taking the time to write us such a kind and generous review. Our aim is to provide a cozy, peaceful hideaway where our guests can recharge from a busy day of sightseeing, as well as experience a bit of everyday life in Kyoto. Therefore, it is especially gratifying to know you enjoyed not only your stay here but also our little neighborhood. It was an absolute delight having you and your beautiful family with us and we would love for the opportunity to welcome you all back to Kyoto soon. The staffs are extremely friendly and helpful providing us the map of amenities nearby and even gave us a detailed explanation of how to use the different functions and details of our room. I noticed the hotel has no lifts, so going up and down might be a challenge for disabled person. You might want to notify the hotel in advance for a room on the ground floor. Room is really huge for two person. Large sitting area, a huge bathroom and just lots of space. The room comes soft music and a separate music for the bath. Totally zen feeling. The only downside is the location - the nearest train station is a 15mins walk away but at the same time I love the quiet neighborhood away from all the tourist and crowd. I would recommend taking a bus to visit all the popular attractions since Kyoto is not as well connected via the train compared to Osaka or Tokyo. The bus stop is a short 3-4mins walk away. Bus 12 brings you to the downtown Shijo area (20mins ride). The nearest FamilyMart/convenience store is 4mins walk if you wanted to grab snacks or drinks.
Response from Property: Dear Mr. rclee1988, Thank you so much for your kind review. It was an absolute pleasure having you both and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We hope your time in Kyoto exceeded your expectations and look forward to welcoming you back soon! Kindest regards, THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West

Staying in Junei was an amazing experience. The hotel is beautiful, the installations are confortable and elegant. The staff is careful and nice, really nice. The localization is also good (bus stop crossing the street and walking distant from the subway). The breakfast is simply amazing!
Response from Property: Dear Mr. 527vin_ciusn, Thank you for so kindly writing us a review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and found our location convenient. It was our pleasure to welcome you and we were overjoyed to hear about your interest for Japanese literature. We hope you were able to explore all the temples and other locations you were interested into as well. The staff as a whole wishes you even greater success in your career and looks forward to the opportunity of welcoming you again in the future. We stayed at the JUNEI Hotel Imperial Palace for 4 nights whilst visiting Kyoto and what a great choice it was. For us, it was more of a traditional Japanese stay. I would recommend having the Japanese breakfast and also make use of the huge spa bath. It is so relaxing after a full day of sightseeing. Best of all is Aya, the hotel manager, and all of her staff. Their level of customer service is second to none; they really do go the extra mile. We can highly recommend a stay at this hotel.
Response from Property: Dear Ms. Tracysampson, Thank you sincerely for choosing to stay at THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West. When I think back on the warm days we shared with you here, I am filled with both happiness and a touch of nostalgia. It was truly a joy to have you with us. Though I spoke in imperfect English, your kindness shone through every conversation, and my gratitude is beyond words. I will always remember your gentle smile each morning at breakfast and the gracious way you carried yourself as you left each day. As someone from Kyoto, where cuisine is so highly cherished, it brought me great joy to see you enjoy our offerings each day. I wish you a smooth and pleasant journey ahead and look forward, with all my heart, to the day we may welcome you here once again. With deep gratitude for your warmth and kind words, Aya Watanabe THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West

Superb staff who could not have done more to assist and make our visit more enjoyable. Great recommendations for dinner which they booked. Excellent at sorting taxis which arrived quickly, The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. The double bed was a delight and greatly assisted our jet lag. Press a button and the huge bath automatically fills to your requested temperature. Highly recommend!
