La Tertre offers a quiet location in a very green parklike setting with a wonderful dose of French country life. The congenial hosts preside over community dinner and petit déjeuner at a long dining table. We chose it for its proximity to the historic abbey of Lessay. Our convivial fellow guests were all from Normandy and Brittany who conversed about the price of groceries (“trop cher!”) the best dairies in the area, and their vegetable gardens. We were lost at their comparisons of local politics but were rewarded with warm chuckles when we declined to offer our perspective on the American election (Henh, oui!) And they were delighted that we loved Norman cheeses. Overall, a very pleasant stay for a night.
