I originally intended to stay 2 nights at Hyatt, but ended up extending my stay for 2 more nights because of the excellent service & the amazing view from my room. I switched rooms twice, because other customers secretly smoked in their rooms and the 2nd hand smoke infiltrated into mine, even though the hotel has a strict policy of no smoking. The staff and especially Owen, the front desk manager, was especially accommodating. He made every effort to see to my comfort during my stay, even upgrading my room and offering two free breakfasts because of the smoking issue. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel in Lanzhou - the service & room & pool & gym & food (the Lanzhou beef noodles) are excellent!

That said the fact that only 1-2 lifts(mostly 1 while we were there) works and it takes an average of 7mins for it to arrive each time we used it(off peak n breakfast hours) leaves a lot to be desited(although the floor manager we ran into acknowledges it's an issue they have been trying to resolve).

I chose this hotel by chance because of the high reviews. I had never heard of Holiday Inn Express before. The front door is very big, easy to find, very impressive. The location is not a very mature business district, but it is backed by a park and has a big lake. Great desk area with city views! Wifi was a little inconvenient (having to scan and sign up) and stopped working after I left and returned to the room later (however staff were very helpful so I'm sure if I asked for help it would have been resolved!) A decent breakfast selection. It would benefit from adding coffee (American etc.) - currently there is a pre-mixed white coffee machine. Would recommend the hotel :-)

We stayed in this hotel in 2 different rooms for 2 nights. The first time we got a room with the whole wall being painted. It was bright but a bit too bright to my taste. The duvet cover had 2 big holes in it but the bed clothes felt clean. The AC worked fine. Since we only needed to sleep in this hotel, it was perfect for us: not too expensive and with great location. It is one minute away from a metro station, very close to a nice restaurant we really enjoyed. The second time we booked it the room was even better: pale yellow painted walls work a lot better I think. Be prepared that you will hear a lot of hotel noise because the walls are quite thin and there are no windows in the room we chose but we knew that from the very beginning. You will like this hotel if you are not too picky and just need a clean and not expensive place to stay.
