Room was fine, a little smaller than expected for the cost but had all we needed. Checking in very slow, hotel was busy with a wedding but only 1 person on front desk so took 25 minutes to get checked in

What a lovely hotel, everyone couldn’t do enough for us . The place was clean , smelt great (Must be the Penhaligans toiletries everywhere) food was excellent. Special shout out to the bar staff Marybeth Maisie George and Jasper outstanding effort from them. They did not realise a pre wedding gathering was happening and probably over 100 people descended on them. They worked tirelessly to get the drinks served and food ordered and with the kitchen team that night it all went smoothly. Thank you everyone. Definitely would recommend this place although access on the narrow winding roads was an issue because there aren’t many passing places so beware.

I made the full payment when I checked in but was refused the invoice. I was told it would be available when I checked out. What a waste of my time. On the morning of checking out, I drove to main reception as my room was in another building. But there was nobody at reception. I waited and waited and decided to try the first floor; I then saw “office” looking area and found someone who worked at the hotel. However I was told to go to another reception which I was never aware of its existence. I was given directions to this “other reception”; it was up and down, left and right kind of thing. By the time I got to it I was out of breath. I also realised that this “other reception” was in fact opposite to the building where my room was! So basically I could have just walked from that building instead of driving all the way to the main reception and then now I had to walk back to the main car park! I complained to the receptionist that all nobody me when I checked in two days ago but she just looked at me and said nothing. Rude staff and what a waste of my time.

Josephine is a complete sweetie and we loved her! She's a great server and really added to the ambiance and great mood in the hotel. Lovely library and bar and the staff are great fun. Thoroughly recommend for a wet Saturday afternoon. Yet to discover the other merits of the hotel as we can't check in but we've had a great time in the bar.

Needs updating and modernisation.

So many issues!! Room was not what I expected! It was described as “superior” but I’ve stayed in better rooms in Premier Inns and Holiday Inns. Bed was too small, bathroom was awful and TV was “low res” with no access to HDMI or USB playback. (Don’t get me started on the dust behind the TV). Also, the toilet roll holder was broken!! Come on housekeeping, why aren’t you dealing with this. The sound proofing between rooms left a lot to be desired and most evenings we thought there must be a herd of elephants living above us. Especially annoying when the wedding guest came back to their room at 1am and spent well over an hour banging about before they settled. The hotel had an awful smell especially in the area behind the main reception in the Manor. The bar staff were poorly trained and couldn’t have been less engaged. Ate from the bar menu on our first night and not only was the food cold, but the quality and quantity was well below par. Consequently we went out every night to eat rather than use the hotel restaurant. Lost revenue for the hotel. The breakfast was ok but only one working coffee machine on our first day meant long queues to get a drink. The quality and variety of breakfast items was good but nothing special and the restaurant ran out of pastries on our last morning! The parking situation on our arrival was very poor and we struggled to find somewhere to park. It was better over the next four days. We certainly would not stay at this particular hotel again and would not recommend to friends and family.

Had dinner at the 1838 restaurant. We had a variety of options to pick from. we had tiger prawns, seafood salad and burrata for starters. Then, the chef's salmon special, pan fried cod and roast corn fed chicken breast for mains. They were all delicious props to the chef. Special thanks to managers Daniel and Karina and all staff there including Alin, Manuth, Lia, Ayan and Rohan.

Had dinner with my family at the restaurant and was greeted by Alin, Ayan and rohan who were very friendly. We were served by Manuth and Lia who were very attentive and they recommended their daily special which was their own salmon main which also had veg from the chef’s home garden which was delicious. Special thanks to Karina and Daniel who were very hospitable and were consistently checking in with us and all the guests. Brilliant service! Brilliant food!
