Stayed at El Nido for 7 nights on our first trip to Holbox. Chose this hotel as we wanted a relaxing atmosphere after a week in Tulum. It was definitely that. The aesthetic is lovely although we would have liked a mirror/ vanity area in the room and perhaps coffee making facilities & a fridge. Otherwise very spacious. Pool area was often quiet too and we enjoyed the breakfast options. 5 minute walk to punta coco which was by far the best beach. Also close to the bioluminescence so you can easily visit by yourself at night rather than paying for a tour. We perhaps under estimated the size of Holbox. We are active and don’t mind walking or cycling but found after 7 days a 20 minute cycle to and from town was a little tiring in the heat. So long as you are prepared for this and accept the road conditions are not great then it’s a lovely place to stay! Grab some drinks from the little shop towards punta coco and head to the pier for the most beautiful sunsets!!

It is a haven of peace. A stone's throw from the beach, very close to Playa Punto Cocos. The place is full of charm, the warm welcome, the delicious breakfast! The swimming pool is great. Exchanges with all the staff are very pleasant.

El Nido - meaning 'the nest' in Spanish - couldn't be a more fitting name for this hotel and our entire stay! Upon entering the lobby and check-in area, we were stunned at the thoughtful design, artful décor and lush landscaping - it felt like we had stepped into another, more peaceful place. Our second floor room came with a balcony (and seating) perfect for morning coffee or catching glimpses of the ocean and beach, which is just a short 5 minute walk away. Our room was plenty spacious for two people, always clean and provided with bottled water - our own little nest after a day in the sunshine. During our week-long stay, Isla Holbox experienced an intense windstorm and some flooding, especially in the main part of town also resulting in many area hotels losing power. That was not the case at El Nido, due to their solar power and other alternative (eco) power options. Even though we couldn't get into town as easily with islands' roads partially flooded, we were perfectly happy to relax at the pool and continue enjoying fresh, delicious food from the hotel restaurant & bar! Note - the hotel restaurant is a separate business entity and is cash only. The hotel itself does accept cards, i.e. for check-in. We did plenty of research before visiting Isla Holbox and were hopeful that Hotel El Nido was going to be a most relaxing, peaceful and special getaway - we were not disappointed! Every one of the hotel staff were warm, welcoming, friendly, and we enjoyed interacting with them immensely! They truly helped make our stay memorable!

The Hotel El Nido Holbox is an absolute gem. Its roughly a 20min. drive by can-am taxi from the Holbox ferry port. The roads are not paved, and that is ok and to be expected on an island. The beaches (playa) are absolutely pristine and also an easy way to walk into town from El Nido. It cannot be overstated how friendly, welcoming and accommodating the hotel staff are. Guests should know this facility operates in a environmentally sustainable way: they have bio-digesting toilets and run power both on solar and on grid. This is a huge benefit to guests, simply as the island's power can sometimes vary and during tropical storms can be off for hours. During our stay, a 2-day storm event disrupted power to the island. The Hotel El Nido was fully operable, was serving fresh, locally sourced dishes, catering to guests' needs and had Wi-Fi. If you are travelling to Holbox, we recommend you do the research before you come. The most important tips are: Bring plenty of cash. Although USD are generally accepted, Pesos are easiest for conversion. The hotel and kitchen are separate businesses and kitchen and bar do not accept credit - Cash only. There are really a handful of cash machines and 1-2 banks on the island with limited hours. The location of the Hotel El Nido is not for guests who want the buzz of the town; it's quiet, and for those who are looking for more peace, to hear the beach, to listen to the birds of the island and occasionally step into town. Average taxi cost one-way is 300-400 pesos. You can also charter a boat to run the the playa into into town and that will likely run 150-200 USD (not recommended). If you are capable of walking and enjoy interacting with the beach, town is an easy 30-minute walk. Be aware of low-mid-high tide time tables to make your walk more enjoyable. In closing, we highly recommend this hotel. Having walked the beach and inspected several of the hospitality properties north of Holbox proper and south of Holbox, this is one of the finest. We already are planning our next visit to El Nido.

The hotel is very quiet and cozy. All the details are very careful. The service is excellent and the hotel staff gave us very good advice. It is a little far from the center, but it is easily reached on foot or by can-am taxi (in our case we had to use the taxi a lot because the streets of the island were flooded after a storm). Near the hotel you can see the sunset perfectly from Playa Punta Cocos.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL! JUST BOOK IT... WITHOUT HESITATION! My fiance and I recently stayed here for an engagement-moon trip. It was our first time to Holbox and we weren't sure which part of the island to stay at, and after alot of research we landed on booking this hotel. We LOVED this boutique hotel, and beyond happy with our stay, and the location. Highlights: - extremely clean rooms, every day cleaned to perfection. - the hotel staff is friendly and helpful and provide a complimentary walk to see the bioluminescence at night (which is only 10 minutes from the hotel, do not book a formal tour for this) - the hotel is small with only 14 rooms, and very secure with a locked main door to enter the hotel facility (although Holbox as a whole felt incredible safe and comfortable) - the location of the hotel is ideal if you want a peaceful trip. You can easily walk into town for 20 minutes, rent a bike for a day (300 pesos) or hire a golf car taxi (200 pesos each way) to bring you downtown Holbox. We walked most evenings into town and although part of the road is very dark, we used our phone flashlights to light the way and felt very safe and comfortable. - the hotel is 5 minute walk from the best beach with the beautiful sunsets. - the hotel has a clean and relaxed pool which gets some shade in the later afternoon (much needed in the Holbox sun!) - daily breakfast is complimentary is simple but good (yogurt and fruit, and a selection of one of 5 menu items you can choose from which are the same 5 items each day) Note; on Holbox you cannot put toilet paper down the toilet due to the septic. I recommend bringing baby wipes to use for #2. I wasn't excited about this but it actually was not an issue at all, and I am picky. They use a garbage-can with lid specifically for toilet paper that is emptied daily. I really recommend this hotel! Also the aesthetic of the hotel is beautiful. Carlos, Andres, Rayna, Maria and others were really very kind to us! Thank you!! :)
