This hotel has closed down and hasn’t notified ******* or any other agent and is still taking bookings on their own website directly. ******* gave me shocking customer service when I raised this with them. I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get them to believe me. Total disaster. Avoid ******* at all costs.

Hotel has shut its doors and disgracefully not told any customers who have bookings or travel agents and are still taking direct bookings on their own website. I spent 2 hours trying to convince Expedia’s call centre this was the case after the hotel still attempted to take payment on my credit card. The hotel has been bought over by a new company and the old owners have run for the hills and aren’t answering phone calls, emails or social media messages about bookings, pocketing the cash. Trading Standards are investigating.

Clearly a well used and well loved hotel with some marks on the bath panel and walls. But the room was spotless, not a hair or bit of dust anywhere!
Staff were so welcoming and friendly, I feel bad for the poor lady who had to let me in at midnight when I couldn’t get the code to work but I do appreciate there’s always someone to help.
Could be noisy but it’s above a lively pub so I cannot complain and the atmosphere was really nice :)
I will be in the area every few months so I think I’m now a loyal customer of theirs :)

What a little gem of a place and the quality of the room and service was far in excess of what you would expect for a 3 star hotel.
The staff were really friendly and the assistant manager was a little pocket rocket although her singing skills are somewhat iffy. The housekeeper gave us an amazing breakfast and all the bar staff were so friendly.
Due to this being a listed building there is no lift so those with any difficulty with stairs may struggle.
A good affordable choice with Edinburgh only 15 minutes on the train.

Room was beautiful and clean. Property fulfilled my request for simple birthday decoration for my room. Easy check in and check out. Property just next to train station, easily accessible to Edinburgh city. Those who feel pricey to stay at around Edinburgh city, please come stay here instead as it will save you a lot! Thanks Star and Garter hotel!
