Very disappointing to say the least !! We visited this venue as a group of 6 adults, for a mid week two night stay in June. On first view of Mitton Hall we were all immediately in awe of the magnificent building set in manicured grounds, with it's impressive vaulted ceiling hall, lounge and bar area. The external rear terrace area was a fabulous place to drink and relax and then.... it all went rapidly down hill. On finding our double standard room through a labyrinth of corridors we entered our room which was tiny (we'd had two very hot days) It was stifling hot with only two minute windows. I went into the bathroom to find it had not been cleaned. Used towels and rinsed out toothpaste in the sink. There was no phone so had to make my way down to the reception. To their credit, instantly with in minutes moved us to an upgraded triple room which was definitely more superior to the heated rabbit hutch previously. On the evening of our arrival we had decided to book a table for dinner in the dining room. The young man serving on, was perplexed as we told him we had a reservation for 6 diners, we finally got seated after 10 minutes. The "Brasserie Menu" I found to be a limited choice. We obviously ordered our meals altogether. Five of the main meals arrived together. We all waited for the sixth meal to appear, after 5 minutes the front of house chap told our friend there was another 15 minute delay for her meal !!! This might have been understandable if the restaurant was at full capacity but there were only another 8 to 10 other diners!! I ordered the Pan Fried Chicken which was not hot, merely warm. It was certainly not A La Carte by any standard. Our friends were not overly impressed either. Dear reader, sorry more disappointments. After our disappointing meals we decided to have cocktails on the terrace. 35 minute wait until we received our cocktails ! I only had a Baileys so it didn't even have to be mixed ! The service at breakfast was abysmal. Once again we all ordered together. It took 30 minutes before we were served our tea and coffee. The tea pots held exactly enough water for 2 small tea cups and we were given only 3 tea pots for 4 people. Finally after another 30 minutes our cooked breakfasts arrived (1 hour after ordering) ......agh no not that simple, only 2 breakfasts arrived and by the time the other 4 meals arrived our friends had finished their meals. My husband ordered Eggs Benedict, you could tell it had been hanging around in the kitchen as there was a thin skin on the sauce. We even had to ask for toast and when that finally made an appearance it was piled on one plate with only 5 slices. The girl serving on looked in a state of bewilderment and when asked for anything looked as if it wasn't in her remit. Again there weren't that many other guests. We were all dreading our second breakfast at Mitton Hall. It was a completely different experience. Efficient chap serving on, all delivered within an ass
