This is the best youth hostel in this place, especially the breakfast is very good. If you want to live in a youth hostel, this is the first choice. It's just that the location is too far from the city center, it's a test

Empfehlung.

Family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers (14 + 16). Good quality breakfast even if the selection is not very large, worked fine for 3 breakfasts. Serene area. Friendly and helpful staff. Separate kitchen that you can make food at, if you like. We had family room with separate bathroom, so that helped (didn't have to worry about the legionnaires disease). This is and old building with a cabin/hostel style, not a hotel, adjust your expectations to that. It's a bit far (30 mins walk) from the center, if that is an issue, don't stay here. Even if the place worked fine and we where picked up from event companies, next time I will spend extra to stay in town and have a larger selection of experiences outside the door (esp in winter time when it's cold outside).

Very comfortable accommodation prior to my trip on the MS Nordstjernen. The room was clean and tidy and didn't mind the shared bathrooms/showers (also very clean) as this was in keeping with the charm of the building. The bar/restaurant was just across the road and very warm and welcoming, with excellent food. Whilst it is at the very top end of Longyearbyen, the views looking down the valley are amazing.

We enjoyed our stay, just a few things spoilt it including not being made aware of potential to get legionnaires disease from the shared showers. Pre-warning of this would've been helpful. Staff were a bit miserable and abrupt and the rooms were super hot, great for a day out in the arctic air but not great for trying to sleep especially with the midnight sun. The food was delicious but very expensive with the beer also being much more expensive than other places. Loved having space and although it is fairly far out of the main bit of town, we saw lots of wildlife which is always a plus.

Hostel style accommodation which while basic is totally appropriate for the area. The whole place is kept clean and tidy. Food menu is limited but enough choice to give a variety over a few days. The standout feature is the excellent team of people working there. Efficient , friendly and knowledgeable.

I really enjoyed the stay. The staff was always helpful and friendly. Clean and comfortable room and services. Plenty of choice for breakfast. I just would have liked a couple more choices for dinner, but the menu and food are nice already. I did appreciate the wildlife and landscapes just outside the door too.

This is a great affordable place to stay on Svalbard. It does good food and has everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The staff are super friendly, welcoming and helpful and do a wonderful job. They create a really nice atmosphere! Although it is a little walk from town, it is exactly where it is advertised and is in the polar bear line so you can walk and take in the beautiful Svalbard scenery on your journey and see more wildlife on the outskirts of town.

We spent un unforgettable time at Coal Mineners' cabin. We stayed in double room with shared bathroom/shower. All was really great. Room was not so big but enough for our stay...warm and with beatiful view of the mountain. We could use the kitchen and the dining room. The staff was friendly and always helpful. Maybe we can only suggest to equip the kitchen better. We'd like to come back sometime.

We booked a family room, somewhat overpriced, as we wanted en-suite accommodation so we had plenty of space in the very basic rooms that were still adequately equipped (no TV and few plugs sockets) and not well swept. The staff and breakfast room were really nice and relaxing, and breakfast basic (hot bacon and eggs and a toaster plus cold stuff) but ok. Free coffee throughout. It’s about a 20 minute walk down the hill to the town with no other services locally but it’s a node walk in summer. Final verdict? We would stay again:

I have chosen this place for accomodation on Svalbard since March 2005-back then the name was Spitsbergen Guesthouse. Since then-the name has changed to Coal Miners Cabin and it had only Got even better!. Nice Roms with good view-and still keeping the history of the place in its interior decoration. Good and soft beds assure you a good sleep after a Long day in the Arctic Nature of Svalbard. Very Nice and helpfull staff that offers good service with any issue or other things during your stay here on Svalbard. I Can only recommend this place to everyone visiting Svalbard-I Will return for sure like I have done for over 18 years now..
