A letter to Montage: Where do I start? … My husband was selected for a trip from his job and out of places in New York, San Diego, Miami, we elected to come to Cabo. We’ve never been so I was the one who persuaded him to come here. We knew prior about the construction on both sides of the resort, that was doable. We also knew this hotel charges an exuberant amount for absolutely everything. Here’s what we didn’t know: The staff caters to rich pretentious travelers from all over. They practically run to their every need, whereas me and my husband found ourselves in constant “trouble“ My husband smokes cigarettes when he vacations ,so he had a few on the beach on our arrival while we waited to check in. We couldn’t check in until 4 and we landed and arrived at 12 noon. But an employee told him they saw him smoking and that there’s designated areas to smoke on site. Okay.. Fine. That was day 1. Also, are they looking through binoculars or something? There was no one around us. Day 2 started with an early morning knock on our door from the bellboy asking if we were ready to check out? We still had 2 days left on our reservation. You would THINK a 5 star FORBES hotel has a good handle on the coming and going’s of their guests. Anyway, we decided to go into town to explore the marina and check out some local food spots our friends back home recommended. It’s $40 USD to take their van into town by the way. Outrageously expensive, considering it’s 10 minutes away. We go, have a fabulous time and (smartly) Uber back but make a pit stop at Oxxco for beer and snacks. Once we get back on site, we start getting ready and take a few beers down to the pool with us. As I dip myself in the infinity pool for what seems like 45 seconds my husband walks up to me and tells me an employee said we can’t drink outside beer. That we must order from the bar - What is going on?! So we leave the pool and walk way down to the front of the beach because Montage Cabo doesn’t own that part. We can do what we want there with the locals which suits us fine. Mind you, we took 2 of Montage signature white beach towels with us and lay out for a few hours. We pass employees on our way to the beach, so we’re SEEN. My spouse ends up needing to use the men’s room so he goes back to the resort and when he comes back he’s laughing and shaking his head from side to side. I said, what’s wrong? He told me that once he got back up the stairs and onto the property some employee said , Sir? You can’t be here guests only please. My husband said I am a guest and had to show them the black key card. I was so livid and felt so bad for him because he’s the kindest person I know but he keeps getting trouble for the stupidest things. Like we’ve never experienced anything like this discriminatory behavior by a hotel?💔😞 We’ve been to Jamaica, Bahamas, Cozumel, Tulum, Antigua, Dominican Republic, Riveria Maya… Never once did any resort make us feel like we didn’t belong. Hurts. We move on. The evening
