Refugio la Roca

I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Refugio de la Roca in October of 2016 and went to sleep each night at around 8:30 pm with a view of the canyon and stars. (I am a hiker and like to get up early each day.) My stay at the end of 2021 was an entirely different matter. There was loud music during dinner time each night that lasted until at least 9 pm, so I had to use ear plugs if I wanted to go to sleep before then. The worst night was that of New Year’s Eve, when there was much louder music organized by La Roca itself from about 11 pm to 2 am, and then raucous music by some guests from at least 2:15 am to 3:45 am, when it appears that La Roca may have finally asked them to turn it off. My ear plugs were of no use given the volume of the music. I don’t plan on ever returning to this place, having seen the complete disregard for its supposed mission of offering a “lugar de descanso” (place of rest). The signs about not playing music too loud were a cruel joke since the place turned into a discoteca. Unfortunately it was an infuriating start to the new year. La Roca decided to ask the cook to come in at 9 am instead of the normal 7 am on January 1st, which is somewhat understandable but it would have been nice to know about it advance. On the positive side, La Roca coordinated my transportation on the 1st, which arrived on a punctual basis.
