10 out of 10. Everything is good for this hotel. Manager Ti welcomed us warmly and helped us by arranging tour services. Amenities and tropical garden were very exotic. The attitudes of the staffs were amazing. Free shuttle service to the city center and the airport was very convenient. Definitely come back and recommend.

This place far exceeded my expectations. The grounds are lovely, you walk through a garden to get to the bungalows on the river. The service is impeccable, down to the little details but also with a warmth that feels like a family welcoming you as new friends vibe rather than servants sucking up to you. Just ridiculously nice and helpful people. Informative check in. There's a pool with sun chairs if you get tired of chilling on the balcony. Food is fantastic, from breakfast delivered to your door to dinner (try the lemon coconut chicken, you'll thank me later). Rooms are in good condition with ac and fan. Wifi everywhere. The only reason this might not be for everyone is it isn't downtown -- but that's also a plus for the peace and quiet and there are free shuttles there and back six times a day (and it's super cheap and quick if the times don't work for you). An absolute steal at this price and if you think it's not a good place to stay there's something seriously wrong with you.

We had a really wonderful stay at Thongbay Guesthouse. Our hosts could not have been more helpful - straight away they offered us an upgrade to a ‘river view’ bungalow as they thought the others might be too busy for us with other families staying. They also made sure we had everything we needed with regards to transport into town and use of swimming pool. Although the guesthouse was a little far from town, they provided free transport in the day and evening which was amazing. It was also possible to walk to town if you really wanted! We thoroughly enjoyed the food served in the restaurant, which we thought was reasonably priced. The bungalows themselves are well cared for and rustic - fantastic value for money. Would recommend staying here for a trip to Luang Prabang.

This place is great! The value is excellent. To have your own bungalow, facing the river, with breakfast every morning brought to your balcony so you can watch the fishermen in the river in the morning. Just spectacular. Also, the gardens on the property are beautiful.

Great guesthouse, our bungalow overlooked the river, very beautiful view, lovely staff, good breakfast (which is very rare). Great swimming pool too.

We were excited to come and stay at Thongbay even before we arrived but were completely taken back by the place once we did. The gardens are a little oasis. The bungalow was perfect, clean and comfortable. All the services (e.g. motorbike hire, laundry, meals, tour highlights, free shuttle rides, etc,) can be arranged onsite. Pool is a very welcome relief. All facilities were sparkling clean. But the absolute highlight was Kai, Thy and the rest of the staff who couldn't have been more welcoming, professional, helpful and kind (even looking after us when we were sick). Probably the nicest hosts we've come across. We strongly recommend Thongbay to those wishing to have a relaxing, safe and comfortable stay in Luang Prabang.

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area about a 10 minute car journey from the centre of Luang Prabang with the hotel providing a free shuttle service into town. We arrived after a 20 minute drive from Luang Prabang railway station and were met by the owner Thy (pronounced Tea) who was super host. During checkin we were provided with a cool drink and face towel while we completed all of the admin process. Thy provided us with street maps of the city and loads of local information around places to visit and restaurants and bars to try. Our room was a bungalow with views over the river. Inside were two double beds, storage area for your clothes and a bathroom with toilet sink and an outdoor but covered shower. The rooms were very clean and roomy. There was no safety deposit in the room itself but you were provided a key for your own deposit box in reception. The hotel is set within some lovely well kept gardens, and you have use of a swimming pool at a property across the street from the hotel which provides towels and all free of charge. The room had a nice balcony area with table and chairs which overlooked the river and breakfast was delivered here each morning and a time of your choice. There were a number of choices to pick from for breakfast and you just wrote your choices on a board in reception the night before. Food here was delicious. Thy kindly booked an early morning tuktuk for us so we could visit the daily alm giving ceremony with the local monks in town, and he also arranged a tuktuk for us to visit Kuang Si Waterfalls which are a must visit. We spent 3 lovely nights here and had a wonderful stay. Many thanks to Thy and his team.

What an amazing place. Beautiful guesthouse with gorgeous gardens and lovely bungalows. Has a pool which is in beautiful surroundings. The staff were so helpful and attentive, the breakfast choice was great. Free shuttle into the center everyday. T and all the team made it a stay to remember, thank you.

We loved our stay at Thongbay and found this was our best accomodation our whole trip! The family run business look after their guest amazingly. We had our breakfast delivered each day on our gorgeous balcony looking towards the river, Mr Thy booked us a trip to the water falls (which was amazing) they even did our washing several times. The pool is super refreshing at the heat of the day, able to get Beer Loas anytime at reasonable prices and we even eat off the menu which was great too. I would recommend this to anyone staying in Luang Prabang, it’s a little out of the main area, however they do have regular shuttles to town and even make do of the free bicycles they have which is easy to get around.

Everything about our stay at Thongbay was great. We were picked up at the airport and greeted with a smile, dropped off at entrance and explained about our stay and how everything worked, and proceeded to our guesthouse with river view. The staff was very friendly and we loved the breakfast delivered to our balcony every morning. About 20-25 minute walk to town, but was nice to see the surrounding area on the way to town. There are also certain drop off and pick up times available and was very helpful at times. Ate lunch and dinner here as well and loved the food and the tall Beerlao beers. Really quiet and peaceful and yes we did hear the music only 1 of the 4 mornings we stayed here and it really wasn’t bad. I did read another review and someone complained about the roosters. Good luck staying anywhere in Laos where you don’t hear roosters. We were shuttled to the airport later to find out our flight was delayed by 5 hours and they told us to come back and hang out, ate lunch, had WiFi, and then took us back again to the airport for a small fee. Overall great stay. Would not change a thing, and we almost booked a fancier place in town and we are so glad we didn’t. If you’re on the fence about staying here DO IT.

We had a fabulous stay at Thongbay - a wonderful base to explore Luang Prabang and a haven to which we were always happy to return. Friendly, fun and approachable staff, spacious comfortable room and a lush pretty setting. What more could you ask for? Thank you.

This is a fabulous place! The bungalows are nicely decorated and have a clear Lao touch. You experience that you are in Laos. Everything is really clean and well kept. The personnel is very service minded and you really feel welcome. The garden is so beautiful and the pool area is a little oasis. We had a bungalow facing the river and we had the breakfast on the veranda with a beautiful view over the river Nam Khan.

This is a good hotel, set in beautiful shrubbery, with bungalows overlooking the Namkhan River. When it was quiet, this was very peaceful, watching the river flow, pure bliss. The problem is, there’s someone across the River, 150-200m away, who is constantly blaring music, with pulsating drums. For me, this was hugely unpleasant. For others, this might not be a big deal. Breakfast is a choice of 4 options, delivered to your room. The hotel is a 10 minute drive from the city center, and they offer 6 shuttles each day to the city, 4 shuttles back to the hotel, in the evening. They also offer complimentary shuttle service to the airport - 5 minute drive. They offer unlimited, pure water, which is great. I walked to /from the city each day. Exit left from the hotel. Then, take right turns at the next 4 options. After the 4th right, you walk 5 minutes and will see the Namkhan River, directly on the right. Then, take the first left and you will be in the middle of town. It took me 28 minutes but I am a slow walker, and use flip flops. Most people might do it in 20 minutes. It’s 1.1 mile ( 1.8 kms ). There is no hot water from the bathroom tap. The hotel charges 3% surcharge if one pays with credit card. Overall, if you are not noise sensitive as I am, you will find this property a good choice.

Everything was perfect! It started with a lift from the airport, continued with wonderful dinner and breakfasts on my private balcony and a very comfortable bed, and finished with warmth and friendliness from the staff. Kai especially was so friendly, warm and welcoming. I have no hesitation in recommending this guest house.
