I have spent five nights at the delightful Mekong Charm Riverside. it is a small hotel but in a perfect position overlooking the famous Mekong river in Luang Prabang, Laos. For anyone who has not visited Laos, it is like many South East Asian countries, very friendly and feels very safe. Launag Prabang is a great tourist destination, and for westerners the prices are amazingly cheap. I would have expected to pay NZ$300 a night for a similar hotel overlooking a river in New Zealand. This place came in at around NZ$50 a night. Lynn (Linh) is the manager and she is extremely friendly and helpful (as are all the staff). Upstairs, my room was lined in dark teak and had a very modern bathroom. The room was large, had a desk, a massive bed, great air conditioning and of course a fantastic riverview from my balcony. Breakfast is included in the price and was mainly European options: eggs, sausages and the like. In Laos, one doesn’t wear shoes inside so it may be unusual for some travellers. But it kind of felt like home, taking shoes off at the door and wandering inside. I would highly recommend this small hotel to anyone looking to visit Laos.
