This property is our favorite place to stay in Lubbock! The location is great, it is a nice, safe, clean area, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are always very clean. The breakfast is good, with a nice variety of foods, hot and cold. It is also within walking distance to quite a few restaurants.

About 150 years ago when I was just out of college I took a job nearby and this hotel was a Holiday Inn. It’s very existence grew out of the May 1970 Tornado that urban renewed the whole neighborhood. Holiday Inn will not keep a property after it has aged out. That’s where the MCM Brand comes in attempts to operate it as it once was when it was worthy of a name brand. They are in quite a few places in my state but they don’t impress me. They buy hotels and keep operating them until they breathe their last gasps of air. This one is certainly out of date but it does have a lot of meeting space and conference areas to use. My room was plenty OK but the bathroom was aged. The flooring was vinyl and peeling up. The towels, sheets and other linens were fine. The HVAC worked right but my room door wouldn’t close. It required a strong tug to get the door to latch. It was very easy to go off leaving it unlocked. The outside of the building on the South is suffering from a lot of peeling paint and poor care overall. I did have a couple of drinks in the club which were OK, but too expensive. I looked over the free breakfast offering in the diner and decided I’d go across the street to the Pancake House instead. I just don’t like any kind of food on a serving line, but especially self-service. This property is typical of the MCM brand. It’s OK but nothing remarkable. The word “elegante” and “leftovers” don’t fit together well in my recipe book. This property is definitely a left over Holiday Inn and it does need some updating. I would not pick this brand were I not at a meeting there.

We tend to stay at Holiday Inn Express hotels on roadtrips, usually spending a night of two as we pass through cities. We've had good and okay experiences with IHG hotels, but this one (Lubbock University area) was one of the let-downs. The hotel looks really nice and modern from the exterior, so I got my hopes high that it will be one of the cleaner/newer ones. Sadly, as soon as we stepped into the room, my first impression is ”the room smells funny” -- there is a curious lingering odor -- not bad, but also not the typical ”clean” hotel room smell. I freshened the room, I thought, no big deal. Upon our return, I started to notice other things *not* in order: a/c was left ”off”; tissue box had one tissue sticking up (the box is otherwise empty); small stains on the carpeted area between the beds; hair on the tub (not ours, as we haven't used the shower yet); some liquid (water?) mixed in the provided conditioner (wall-fastened one); and worst, a couple of the towel looks used, and one had stain on it :( We were only staying the night, so I didn't make a complaint. Breakfast was okay -- typical, but seems a little more sp**** than other Holiday Inn Express. The breakfast lady was very nice. I asked to see if they have more green tea bags, and she referred us to the front desk (she said everything out is all she has). *They did have green tea bag at the front desk -- I thought that was a little odd, but, ok...... They also didn't have any hot chocolate, which my son wanted. And, during the day we checked in (outside of the breakfast hours), there was no complimentary coffee -- only hot water. I have not seen that before at any other Holiday Inn Express. Lastly, the only thing my son was looking forward to this quick stop was the pool. It was dirty, and sadly, not usable.

Was easy to check in and out, however when we got to the room, we couldn’t find a garbage can. The room smelled like cigarettes. There was no blankets other than a thin sheet on the bed. So sleeping at night was super hard, because it was cold in the room. We had it at 70, but it was still too cold. Would’ve loved to have a thicker blanket. Staff was super friendly and otherwise our stay was nice.

First time staying here and won't be the last! Ended up with a top floor and balcony room, which took my breath away! All amenities were clean and pristine, and the bed was comfortable and relaxing! The staff are down to earth and kind; they helped with anything I needed and I can't wait to stay here again!
