On arrival, was told that there was a staff shortage - so no breakfast available. Shame that there was no advanced warning. So, Marston's Brewery, you have appointed a pub manager, who is not prepared to put his / her guests first, when all else fails, by cooking the breakfasts him / her self. Where is the commitment to customers ? The room had a non-working en-suite light and non-working TV remote controller. So, how was the en-suite properly pre-cleaned in the dark ? Did anyone check the TV remote between guest lettings ? Did the room service person report the defects ? Did any Manager take any notice ? Upon complaining, we were given another room - this time the bed-side light did not work - so we swapped it for the one in the first room. (Back to the same questions about room defects.) Both rooms have had 'late' modifications, with the addition of small en-suites - which is fine. However, the wash-hand basins - sorry, wash-finger basins - were so small that when cleaning teeth, or especially when trying to wet the face for a shave, excessive quantities of water ended on the bathroom floor. Despite the small size of the en-suites, there is room for larger washbasins. Quite simply, the basins provided are too small to use and clearly not fit for purpose. So (again) Marston Brewery - you are providing accommodation facilities which are not fit for customers. Have you ever checked the accommodation ? Add to this the manager who obviously does not care about customers (as above). The best thing is that customers AVOID THIS ACCOMMODATION - and that Marston's Brewery concentrates solely on running the pub, as it is not addressing accommodation at all seriously. The on-duty bar staff were most helpful, and apologised for the situation. It would be good if Marston Brewery would respond to this critical review . . .
