When you travel you expect to be treated fairly and justly. This hotel did not. It started off ok but it was hot when we were there and there was no air conditioning in our room. Our room was on the street side and we either had to open a window and listen to loud noise or sweat. They did give me a broken fan and the next day when I complained they said that I should have asked for a better fan. BUT they knew the fan was defective as previous guests had stuffed paper into the neck to try to get the fan to stay upright. The staff said they would call the police to stop the noise after 10 but you cannot call enough police to hold down a crowd of noisy people. The staff promised me a better room the next day but then changed their mind (after I complained to **********) telling me that since I purchased a reduced fare through a discount site, that I would not get a better room. I decided to move to a better hotel since there were many in the area. Then the hotel would not give me a refund. I am out $275 SO here is my suggestion. There are many hotels in the area a lot better with a lot better customer service. Find a better one. Next, never book a hotel that does not say specifically that they will give a refund. Next, never pay at the hotel, pay through **********. Next, if you book through a discount site, make sure the hotel has air conditioning in ALL rooms or you will get the worst room in the house. The front desk staff were friendly and polite to me, they helped me on things as best as they could and English was well spoken. The view from outside is nice as you are so high up. The hotel is overall ok but it's not high-end, it's old and a little dark, I did not see that opulent wood panelled dining room shown in the Tripadvisor pics, the dining room was nothing like that. The room had an adequate kitchen area which I found very useful and you will need to obviously buy food but also all washing up stuff etc and all cleaners. You clean/make up your own room unless you pay an extra daily charge which I didn't but I'm old enough to make my own bed. However as I was there for 11 days I was told I'd get one cleaning day/linen/towel change after a week but that never happened. Like the last reviewer I was also in Lyon for surgery and this hotel is not suitable for post-op recovery as you really do need to be pretty fit to deal with the location. It is halfway up a very steep hill several hundred yards long so would also not suit older visitors or those that want an easy level stroll to local cafes. The local store at the bottom of the hill is good and is where you can buy most needed supplies and the boulangerie opposite makes very nice mini quiches. This would suit a younger visitor or able visitor and the area is also good for street photographers. Lyon is a nice city and good to explore but if you visit the marvellous Notre Dame Basilica in Fourvierre be very careful. You will need to use the funicular railway to get to it and on this I was mugged by a young steaming gang who pickpocketed my cash and c/cards. One young 20s guy within with two petite, dead face teen girls will block your path as you get on the carriage and literally lock on to you bodily. The guy will start shouting in your face to distract you while the skilful girls are emptying your pockets. You won't feel it.

The youth hostel with excellent facilities, one on each floor of the public washroom, is very large, including the bathroom, the washstand and the toilet, separated by men and women. The room was very clean, and the front desk lady chose the best bed for us, praise! Each bed has a cabinet and power outlet. The kitchen is small but can be cooked and the peak period is expected to be very crowded. The bad place is too noisy! ! I was on the road, and some people in the house came back late at night, and it would be very big to open the door.

The location is on a small hill. If you have luggage, it may be difficult. The environment is quite beautiful, but the bed is very short. Another thing that is more surprising is that the counter already asked me to pay the city tax when I checked in, and asked me for a city tax when I checked out. She was very suspicious and told me that she didn't trust me. It said that the computer showed that the payment has not been made. I don’t know how the computer wrote it, so I asked her to ask her staff directly. From my experience, guests will be charged when they check in. She also showed a very suspicious I will continue to take what I have... 😊 It took a while to check out, it can be seen that there is a problem with the system of this family~

This was the second time I had stayed at the Grand Hotel des Terreaux. The hotel is in a central location in Lyon, and I like the style. The service was excellent, they speak English, and I loved the breakfast buffet. The room I stayed in was very nice but on the smaller side, typical for hotel rooms in France. The bed was very comfortable for me, and the room had air conditioning which is great as it can get quite warm in France. Wireless access was included, and fast and reliable. Overall an excellent hotel I can highly recommend.
