when we arrived we received a warm welcome from the owners. We found the room clean light and airy with a great view of Dartmoor. The free internet was really useful and the refitted bathroom was very clean. Downstairs the bar was well stocked with a good range of drinks and snacks. There was a small shop selling a good range of food for visitors and guests also a nice range of professional photos of Dartmoor which would either make a nice wall picture or a gift. The Restaurant was light and airy with lovely views of the surrounding hills. The evening meal was well cooked and very tasty. The breakfast too was lovely with a good selection of fruits and cereals. It was our first visit to the Kestor Inn although I lived in the area when I was a teenager attending the then Heathercombe Brake School at Heatree House in the late 1970's early 1980's. It is now Heatree Activity Centre, still run by the Heathercombe Brake Trust. Dartmoor it's self remains much the same over the years I would recommend visiting local sites such as Hound Tor, Hay Tor, Becky Falls, Jay's Grave, Heatree Activity Centre (by appointment), Higher Heathercombe Centre (by appointment), Widecombe in the Moor, Moretonhamstead, Dartmeet, Princetown with Dartmoor Prison and local town of Bovey Tracey. Local transport is limited so best book a taxi in advance especially in the peak holiday season. Also remember to take waterproof clothing as the weather isn't always fine. Happily the weather was fine and hot when we visited. In the evening we enjoyed a lovely drink in the beer garden after our school reunion. We will certainly be returning to the Kestor Inn as the service and food is outstanding and we would certainly recommend the Kestor Inn if you are staying on or near Dartmoor.

After fighting my way down very narrow roads (went the wrong way) trying not to scratch the car - I suddenly came 'face to face' with the Kestor Inn. I was so relieved! I received an extremely warm welcome from the landlord and was shown to my room on the first floor - large, clean & well furnished. All the electric points I could wish floor and an en Suite bathroom - Now I was smiling! A note on the table gave instructions regarding the free wifi (which worked perfectly). Quick change and down to dinner- glass of house red wine at the bar (delicious) while I studied the small but very well balanced menu- all home cooked raj by the Landlady! The meal was excellent - I chose a 10oz rump steak - medium rare - it was huge, extremely tender, cooked to perfection and VERY tasty- garnished with triple cooked fresh chips, grilled tomato, fresh mushrooms & onion rings. The next morning I had the inclusive breakfast - unusually good- everything one could wish for. I just hope I have reason to be in the area again in the not too distant future.

The moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped by the warmth of a roaring fire, instantly melting away the chill of the moorland air. Our room perfectly blended rustic charm and modern comfort with large windows. The full English breakfast did not disappoint – a hearty spread that fueled us for the day ahead. The cosy atmosphere, great location, and warm hospitality had worked their magic, leaving us thoroughly refreshed and planning our return visit.

We stayed for two nights at the Kestor Inn. We had a great stay. The team were really welcoming, the food was great and our room was really comfortable. We didn't have time to make the most of the local area on this trip but did enjoy some walks from the Inn. We would happily stay again and would definitely recommend.

We arrived just after the kitchens closed, but the staff kindly offered to cook us some chips anyway. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were friendly. Looking forward to visiting again soon (hopefully, when the kitchens are open…).

Lovely stay for my husbands birthday. Staff were very friendly and helpful suggesting walks from the pub. Room was clean and spacious. Food was excellent. Large selection for breakfast and cooked to your liking. Ate in the restaurant a few times and the food and choice was excellent and reasonably priced.

Had a lovely stay at the Kestor Inn over the May Bank Holiday weekend. All the staff made us feel really welcome, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the food was great. If it is sunny the bear garden is a lovely spot in the afternoon/evening. Good place to start a walk to Bowerman's nose and Hound Tor. Will visit again.

We were staying in the village and a couple of friends booked a couple of nights at the Kestor. We were all given a very warm welcome, our friends were happy with their room (the only doggy friendly room). We enjoyed really good and reasonably priced food. Lovely well kept beer as well. Just great.

We should have booked as it was a sunny day and a Bank Holiday. The pub was busy but despite that we were made very welcome, served quickly and enjoyed our meals. Lots of choice of delicious food and sensible prices too. Looking forward to our next visit.

What a fabulous hotel to base an exploration of the area, or just to stay there? I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with all aspects of the Kestor Inn. You will be greeted and perhaps entertained by your host, who will make sure you have everything you would need to make the best of your stay. The hotel may be a little isolated, but its non the worse for that! The bed was very comfortable, and the en suite, though not the biggest, certainly served its purpose. Breakfast was cooked to perfection, and the bacon is special to my way of thinking, just beautiful. We enjoyed only one evening meal during our stay and it was well presented, and exceedingly tasty throughout. Real ale was fresh pulled at the bar, very tasty, and not as expensive as some places I've stayed at? At some point we'll be back there again. My recommendation is to make sure you can enjoy this gem of a hotel. If it's in your area, just book it!

Lovely, quiet , Dog friendly pub. Had the ground floor room. Everything you needed there. Had meals in the bar too which was very nice. Nice selection of dishes and drinks etc. About thirty minutes away from any local shops.

Although we live in Torquay we joined with friends and spent a great weekend at the Kestor Inn. Spending time on the moor is a world away, time to relax, enjoy the quiet and the beautiful scenery all around. We ate at the pub and enjoyed lovely food for dinner and breakfast each day, the Pork was amazing ! James, Gary & Julie are excellent landlords with humour, which made our stay most enjoyable. It was our second stay and will not be our last ! Chris, Tessa and friends.

Clearly a lovely local pub in the winter. Just what we had hoped for. A good meal and quiet early night on a winters night. It rather backfired with a band playing beneath our room until closing and the fire alarm going off at 2pm. The latter was unlucky but an email warning us about the band would have been polite and easy given November is far from the high season. Other nights we would have enjoyed it. But after a really busy stressful week, a long drive and 6 hours walking on the moor - we were far from refreshed after a few hours disturbed sleep! This is not to take away from the friendly staff and perfectly adequate room and food. Just warn us next time 😊
