Elewana Sand River Masai Mara

Absolutely fantastic camp / lodge. Managers John and Kevin were very accommodating. The waiting staff were brilliant and the food was second to none. The entire cap was just brilliant. Our guide Daniel made our trip. Such an awesome wonderful and knowledgeable person, a true warrior, in heart, mind and soul. Very sad to say goodbye to this lovely guy. Daniel made our trip. The fun at Sand River began right away as we got to witness a river crossing right from our lunch table almost immediately upon arriving! We can’t say enough about the team at Sand River. John met us on arrival and was always there to make us smile and take care of anything we needed. Enock “the magician” was able to find all the wildlife on our list…but the incredible early morning encounter we had with four grown male lions is something we’ll never forget. We love you Enock! And we have to give a great big shout out to Jackson, who took great care of all our meals, which were incredible! Sand River is a tented camp but the accommodations are first class. We stayed in the “Little Sand River” section which we thought was quieter and probably better suited for couples. Little Sand River has its own reception and dining area. But the pool is completely on the other side of the property which is probably why more families with kids tend to stay on that side. Sand River’s location is away from most of the other camps in the Mara. During peak seasons, the Mara can be quite busy so it was nice to be in a quieter spot. You might be woken up by the sounds of elephants walking by the river or lions roaring - but that was all part of the fun! We had an amazing time at Sand River that we’ll never forget!

An amazing place to stay in Masai Mara! We had the best guides during our stay with our family. Charles and Kip rocked it with seeing everything on our wish list and more!! We were fortunate enough to see a lion cub and more babies, lots of kills, and the most amazing of all was the 10,000+ crossing of the wildebeests and zebras on their way to the Serengeti! The staff was very accommodating to our needs and the room was wonderful. We saw a baby elephant grazing just across the river from our balcony. The outdoor shower was great during the day but a little bit intimidating in the evenings when we would hear sounds but couldn’t see what was outside. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and especially with our wonderful guides that made this trip so special in so many ways! An unforgettable experience for all!

We stayed at four Elewanas. The staff at all were great. At the Sand River the staff was exceptional. Every single individual went out of their way to make our experience special. The food was outstanding . We loved the choices we had at each meal. The vegetarian selections were great. Jentrol was our butler. He helped me organize a birthday celebration , which turned into one of our favorite memories of the trip . Our guide, Enock was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I would request him again. If you are in the Maasai Mara area, strongly consider staying here.

What can I say about this luxury camp! Our host for 4 days was John, one of the most professionally service oriented and nicest man we have ever met at any safari camp. Elewana has some of the nicest camps in the Mara, no doubt. Service was impeccable! We wanted for nothing during our stay thanks to John. The food was outstanding! Such a much higher level than the average food at camps around the Mara. Our tent was clean, beautiful and remade to the tees every morning. Hot water was almost instant. I think they have water heaters under the decks of each tent. The tub was heavenly to soak in after a long day on safari. The outdoor shower was also very relaxing. Elewana camps are a step up in the price range of Mara camps but well worth the extra money. You get what you pay for. I would not hesitate to recommend Sand River Camp to anyone looking for impeccable taste. We loved our four day stay and can't wait to return some day. Thank you John, thank you Elewana!! The staff was outstanding in every way. The smiles brighten every moment we were here. Everyone went out of their way to make sure the experience "was ours". My cousin had a birthday and Chef George made a birthday cake and the staff came out and sang. Evan, the bartender, makes an incredible martini. Jentrol, our personal assistant, took care of anything and everything. John, the manager, was a ray of sunshine with his smile. Enock, our guide, was a miracle worker and extremely knowledgeable about animals and surroundings. The Maasai village will never be forgotten. You must do the dawn hot air balloon was mind blowing! The experience will never be forgotten.
