One of the coolest hotels I’ve ever stayed in! Loved the vibe, the food, the people. It’s beautiful and unique, with great history as well.

Established in 1225, Maryculter House has been the place for hospitality and a place for tranquility. It has 40 bedrooms designed with Scottish interiors and our room overlooked the River Dee. We kept our windows open (no bugs) all night and awoke to the birds singing and the very early rise of the sun. Request a room overlooking the river at time of booking. We spent two nights there, however I would have happily stayed at least a week if time permitted. Each room was a reminder you were in Scotland and had historical memorabilia throughout. It is also only 30 minutes away from attractions including Balmoral Castle. It is a beautiful part of Scotland to relax and/or tour the country, The staff were friendly, professional and very willing to help with any of our questions. It was such a relaxed and welcoming house. There is also a stunning ballroom that can accommodate up to 120 persons. This year they have 40 weddings booked. We would never have known the ballroom was there if we had not requested a tour of the buildings. Even though the house was full the common rooms were never crowded. There is no elevator in the house. Nor are there bell hops/someone to assist with luggage. So just be aware you will need to carry your own luggage to your room. I'm sure if there is a reason you could not lift your bags they would step up and help. It is noteworthy there is a large fully handicapped washroom on the main floor for anyone visiting or having dinner. We dined both evenings and breakfasts at the house as we were delighted with the quality of the food and selection of wines. There is a full bar located just off the dining room. Breakfast is also included in your stay. We would definitely stay there again.

Our third trip to Mary Cutler House and stayed for 2 days. The rooms as usual are comfortable and nice. However the dining was simply awful., which is a shame. In the past we've dined at Mary Cutler as we usually choose establishments to stay that have dining. Sent my French Onion soup back as it was extremely sweet ( had the taste of carmelized onion jam) and the roast was so salty it was barely edible. The cook ( certainly not a chef) is the only reason we would not return as the dinner food was completely deplorable. Breakfast however was quite good.

The hotel and staff were lovely but what let it down was the evening meals. The breakfast was lovely but on our second morning the service was terrible, I had to chase up everything including menus. My husband and my evening meals were terrible, the first night I had to return my burger as it was raw and there was blood on the plate although my husband enjoyed his beef. On speaking to other guests they also said there burgers were not cooked properly. On the second night we both ordered fish and chips thinking that should be okay but had to return those as the fish was very tough. It was difficult to cut and chewy, although the chips were lovely. My husband took me for my birthday so it was a shame the evening catering let it down, otherwise it is a lovely hotel.

Staff were marvelous in every way. The floor boards through the bedroom area were very loud and moved way too much under ones feet. Needs urgen repair. Dining was good especially the Sea Bream 10/10, sadly the Fillet steak at £39 was dissapointing. If it was Fillet. 3/10 It's lovely place, fix the floorboards and take the fillet off the menu.
