Established in 1225, Maryculter House has been the place for hospitality and a place for tranquility. It has 40 bedrooms designed with Scottish interiors and our room overlooked the River Dee. We kept our windows open (no bugs) all night and awoke to the birds singing and the very early rise of the sun. Request a room overlooking the river at time of booking. We spent two nights there, however I would have happily stayed at least a week if time permitted. Each room was a reminder you were in Scotland and had historical memorabilia throughout. It is also only 30 minutes away from attractions including Balmoral Castle. It is a beautiful part of Scotland to relax and/or tour the country, The staff were friendly, professional and very willing to help with any of our questions. It was such a relaxed and welcoming house. There is also a stunning ballroom that can accommodate up to 120 persons. This year they have 40 weddings booked. We would never have known the ballroom was there if we had not requested a tour of the buildings. Even though the house was full the common rooms were never crowded. There is no elevator in the house. Nor are there bell hops/someone to assist with luggage. So just be aware you will need to carry your own luggage to your room. I'm sure if there is a reason you could not lift your bags they would step up and help. It is noteworthy there is a large fully handicapped washroom on the main floor for anyone visiting or having dinner. We dined both evenings and breakfasts at the house as we were delighted with the quality of the food and selection of wines. There is a full bar located just off the dining room. Breakfast is also included in your stay. We would definitely stay there again.
