Sassi di Matera
We loved this Matera hotel! In fact, it was one of our favorites of our 10 day trip in Puglia. The location is perfect, an easy walk into the center of town and to many great restaurants. Amazing views from our room. The staff was very friendly and helped us with big suitcases. Parking is super easy and not far from the hotel. The room is very elegantly styled, and I especially liked the modern bathroom. The only thing missing is soundproof windows. The breakfast was fabulous, with a great assortment of fresh fruit and homemade cakes. I definitely recommend this hotel for your trip to Matera!

Sassi di Matera
OK, you need to walk a bit to reach it, as the car needs to stay a fee hundred meters away. But then….you are right in the heart of this magic old town. The rooms are different building and each is unique in its way. In very old walls, but with all modern amenities and comfort, and very clean. The breakfast room feels like being in a cave, and very cute and nice. We were impressed by the warm welcome and the friendliness of the staff. They will give you tailored suggestions on what to visit in which order depending on the amount of time you have, pulse some background stories. It feels like you are staying with friends.
Residence Masseria Santa Lucia

This Masseria is located at about 10 min driving distance from the city center. It’s a convenient location, with supermarkets and gas stations nearby and close to the highway too. The place is great, an old building with lots of history behind that was renovated and converted into a hotel/guest house, with a beautiful outdoor pool and garden. Unfortunately, I found the management very inexperienced - except for Enzo at reception, who went above and beyond our expectations from the day we arrived, offering plenty of good suggestions for places to visit, restaurants and shops and always ready to help and make us feel welcome. The rest of the staff is either very young or does not seem prepared for the task they are up to. They also have a restaurant inside, managed by other owners, where we did not have a good experience at all. We had dinner there one evening. The food options were very limited (and did not reflect that was on the menu), the food was average and the service seemed improvised. When we paid the waiter summed up our bill with a manual calculator and couldn’t even remember the prices of the dishes in the menu (he was looking at a hard copy of it) - something I found hilarious and have never seen before! Also, bad price-quality relation - you can get something much better for better price in Matera. Overall, OK rooms and apartments, although not perfectly clean, and OK breakfast too. However, I would not go back to this Masseria as I am sure there are better places in Matera for the same price. A pity considering the beautiful location they have!
Dimora Al Castello

The staff was incredible. The b&b is run by a family - we met the mom and daughter upon cHeck in, and they were the friendliest, most helpful staff we have met. The property is very centrally located, very clean and modern. We were just a 5 min walk to the center of matera, but just off the main road so it was quiet and peaceful. The rooms are all different colors! We throughly enjoyed our stay. Rosella and her mom were super nice! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for comfort, cleanliness, and convenient location in matera.
Hotel San Domenico Al Piano

To be honest, I was skeptical about this one. I needed to book the hotel last minute (like literally the previous night), so seeing an old-looking building (probably constructed in the 1980s) was not really encouraging BUT I wanted to see Matera, so I went ahead. The hotel surprised me and by a lot. First of all - yes, the building is old BUT all inside is renovated, so all is great. The rooms are good in size (not too small at all, just right) and everything is very clean. You have a full minibar if you want something and the hotel has a working restaurant and staff at reception 24/7. The breakfast is phenomenal (like, literally anything any traveler could want) and the staff are helpful and friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location. Basically, there is no other hotel in Matera which is closer to the Sassi and the historical center. You just need 5 minutes of slow walking (entrance to the old town square is just behind the hotel :) ) and you are at the viewpoint and the cistern. There is a vending machine for snacks and drinks just less than 10 minutes away down the street from the hotel (in the old town) and any sights and amazing places to eat are within the same 5-10 minute distance. If you want to see the historical center of Matera, this is the place to stay (you won't regret it, trust me!). The hotel is very popular with Italians visiting Matera, so keep that in mind and if you are not travelling solo, like me, better book in advance :) The prime location comes with a single downside and a few things to consider (listing them here as they are just things to keep in mind and not something that is a huge issue) - the proximity to the Sassi means you will be quite far away from the bus station (3 kilometers) and the train station (1.5 kilometers). The distance is not that much BUT it is an uphill slope 90% of the time, so if you have a lot of luggage, better take a taxi. I loved it, so there is nothing I can put my finger at as a bad things, really, I just want to continue what I started above with the things you should keep in mind when visiting. If you come by car, make sure to notify the hotel in advance, as it is within a restricted parking area and parking lots are limited. Also be aware that the hotel is busy (as I said, very popular with Italians visiting) and check-in starts at 15.00, so if you come in earlier than that, you may need to wait. The staff would do anything they can to accommodate you early, BUT if you plan on arriving before noon, better notify them, to get your room ready. The hotel also have luggage storage, just so you know. Did I say I loved it? Just to repeat I can't wait to return!
HOTEL MOSAICO

Esperienza indimenticabile. 5 stelle per il Servizio ***** compensa il resto
