I liked the traditional experience but the room needs some cosmetic maintenance. Touching up the paint and repairing a little of the wooden skirting. You DO need to pre-book for dinner, but e we found a great little place just a short walk away in the town.

It's a bit of a climb from JR Matsushima Station, but it's close and convenient. You can reach the tourist attractions of Godaido and Zuiganji Temple in about 10 minutes on foot. The observation spot opposite the inn was featured on Bura Tamori. It's a tough climb, but the view is great.

I stayed here with a few friends in November. I believed their words, "Please call us when you arrive at Matsushima Kaigan Station. We will come to pick you up right away," so I called them, but we ended up waiting for 20 minutes. The facility is old, and it is inconvenient to go to the annex, as you have to go down the stairs and then take the elevator. The rooms are also very old and shabby. The food we were looking forward to was cold, so it didn't taste as good. To top it off, breakfast is a buffet, but there is a long line. The value for money is terrible.
