The Black Swan

We went here for lunch after visiting the seal sanctuary, and were very impressed with the pub, staff and food. The roast dinner is definitely recommended....in fact it was one of the best we've ever had ! Plenty of meat and many different vegetables, all piping hot. Very reasonable price and excellent value for money. We will definitely return! Special mention to Riley, a very friendly and attentive young man.

Uncomfortable bed with huge dip, no tea spoon with the tea making stuff, TV with no aerial? Nice pub but the rooms are tiered and need a little work.

A mixed review: Generous room, exceptionally comfortable bed, spacious shower. Friendly courteous staff, good food & drink. We chose The Black Swan as it was one of the few places which included breakfast in the price we paid. Alas we were let down on both mornings! The first morning was negated by a free main meal the following evening. The second, however, was a complete no show despite having arranged personally the specific time with the landlady the previous evening! We waited 45mins only for the place to stay in darkness. I have yet to receive any communication regarding this matter which is hugely disappointing. The fire door leading out from the accommodation was locked which is a significant worry as both windows in the room would not open.

Nice village pub in rural picturesque spot. Very good beer, nice atmosphere. Room clean and tidy. Lovely staff. Menu of pub classics very nice fish and chips. Breakfast very good. Quirky village shop opposite had great range of local, gf, deli. A very friendly pub .

We came in yesterday lunch time (Sunday) and had thoroughly enjoyed it, the staff were very friendly to us, the bar area was fairly full and busy. There was a mistake with one of the meals but they were very apologetic and quick to fix it for us. Overall was a very good experience with the food and atmosphere.

OK firstly don't be fooled by this pubs current rating that has been built over previous years. I usually never write reviews but felt I really wanted to this time. I have been visiting this pub for over 3 years and stayed many times, but my visit this weekend has left me extremely saddened. The heart of a community has been destroyed. A place you looked forward to visiting, full of fun and wonderful people has been turned on its head. The pub is a disgraceful mess, the staff and owner seem uninterested in visitors and only able to engage with people they know. Choice of beer was virtually non existent. Its seemed like we were in a youth club/creche. If ever anyone feels the need to see how a pub should not be run and how to drive loyal customers away, please visit here, you will not be disappointed.

We came here last week and were hugely disappointed that the standards of the pub has gone down significantly. The service and quality of the pub are terrible. Too many young staff working who come across inexperienced. The manager doesn’t seem to make any effort with customers and came across unfriendly. The atmosphere was ok due to the lead up to Christmas. It’s a shame as this is our local pub; it used to be so warm and welcoming. We now definitely won’t be coming back. They need new staff and management urgently!!
