Cozy, Delightful and Delicious! My husband Tom and I spent three fabulous nights in The Headlands Inn and I can’t remember any hotel (including the Ritz) with more comfy beds and amazing service. The fluffy feather mattresses and cozy duvets made it easy to want to dream the morning away! Each morning we were greeted with a beautiful and delicious breakfast delivered to our room, served with piping hot coffee and juices. The entire staff was very welcoming and friendly (thank you Diane!)…and special thanks to the owner Bob, who went out of his way to make us feel as if we were the most special guests. Mendocino as a whole is absolutely charming and friendly. We look forward to another visit to this historical treasure soon. Thank you to all at the Headlands Inn!

Just loved the town of Mendocino and this was a great place to stay. We arrived late and the owners were so accommodating-made us feel special even with this inconvenience. The breakfast was delicious and very generous. The rooms comfy (we had two for our family). We could walk out our front door to a trail along the beach, which was spectacular. I highly recommend this place and hope to come back.

The owners have a few properties including the main, 3 story house with several guestrooms, and a cottage (one of 3 connected side -by-side) around the corner (Headlands Hideaway). I booked the latter, not realizing it was separate, and that I would not be receiving the scrumptious, home-cooked breakfast that makes B&Bs so special. I did receive a large continental breakfast at my doorstep which included amazing, freshly baked muffins - just wish I'd had the full cooked meal (I offered to pay extra to get this but they would not accommodate even though the main house was not fully booked). The properties are well located - on the edge of town, in easy walking distance to all of downtown Mendocino and the beach, down the street from Cafe Beaujolais, Luna Trattoria and Sweetwater Eco spa (with hot tubs and massage). My room was spacious with a big, comfy bed, a worn couch and some wooden antique furnishings (some in better condition than others). It included a coffee maker, fridge, microwave and tv. There was an electric fireplace, which was actually the heater, and an outdoor patio. Overall, the room was dark and the bathroom was tiny but functional. In the main house, some rooms have fireplaces and/or ocean views and the top floor rooms have vaulted ceilings. Cookies and tea are served at 4:00 (and guests at other of their properties can join).

We stayed in the John Barry room for 3 night in October 2023—our first trip to Mendocino! If you want to stay in somewhere that is LITERALLY walking distance to everything in this small, lovely village, Headlands is a strong choice! You have beautifully arranged, delicious breakfasts sent up to your room. And there are yummy teas and cookies every afternoon on the comfy second floor. Ours was a room with a view, and the dreary weather did not hamper that. No tvs, but very strong wi-fi if you need to “plug-in.” Small and charming, this might not be a property for everyone, but it was delightful for us.

Good location in the small historic town of Mendocino among charming Victorian houses that face the gorgeous headland cliffs overlooking⁹ the ocean. I made a reservation for the deluxe king room - Headlands Hideaway - which I didn't know was in a different building across the street from the main bed and breakfast house. This room was in a nondescript duplex building with no access from the street. You pass through the wooden gate that leads to a wood deck in the back and enter from this back porch. It was a little odd, but I ended up liking the quiet privacy of the cozy room. The room looked exactly like the photos except that there wasn't any outdoor furniture on the wooden deck. I'm assuming that's because it was a cold, rainy March and April this year. The Wi-Fi worked well and the gas stove heated the room like a champ! It was easily controlled by a wall thermostat. Though no one was present to check me in at the big house, instructions were left to help me pick up the keys and find my room. Inside, there was a binder with more apartment information, as well as local sites and restaurants. I later discovered that check in messages had been sent through Booking, but didn't have a cell signal to see them until after check in. I thought it was a tad more expensive than it should have been given the fact that several of the amenities mentioned in the reviews did not apply to this off-site accommodation. I arrived at 2:15pm, but a note on the door stated the manager would return at 3pm. So I went out walking the Headlands and returned around 6, but no one was there. I guess reception is only a 2hr window... This apartment does not have a view. The French door entry overlooks the back deck and the neighbor's grass backyard beyond that. The bathroom window overlooks the street. The upscale toiletries included shampoos and soaps that were all-natural blends that smelled like... a fistful of flowers and weeds from a garden. I was not a fan; I bought a bar of generic soap in town. The shower and toilet were low-flow, but that is to be expected in California, a state in a state of perpetual drought. The king bed mattress was a bit worn with the obvious sink pattern of two people sleeping on each side of a hump in the middle. The delicious breakfast with the hot soufflé, French toast, bacon, etc. that the guest reviews raved about did not extend to me at the Hideaway. The welcome information left for me stated that a breakfast basket of muffins, granola bars, and fruit would be delivered in the morning. As it turned out, I left before 9am, so I was not there to receive this basket, anyway. I did not receive fresh flowers or chocolates in my room, either. I arrived too late to know whether or not I would've been invited to the afternoon tea... I DID have a key to the main house, but no explanation as to why. I felt it would be oddly intrusive to let myself into the bed and breakfast when my room wasn't in that house. The

We have stayed here several times over the years, always in the Bessie Strauss suite. We love enjoying breakfast at the window table while gazing at the ocean. In fact, we lolled away one afternoon just relaxing and taking in the view. If you are sensitive to creaky floors above, then you might want to get the room above this one. This was only a problem in the morning as we are not early risers.

A terrific little B&B within walking distance of everything. The top-floor John Barry room has windows on three sides for great natural light, and includes a mini-fridge, wine glasses and corkscrew, and a match-ready wood-burning fireplace. The breakfasts are absolutely amazing, with great care taken to address any specific dietary needs. Stay here and discover this oasis for yourself!
