We stayed at Natura Villas (Sand Lily villa) from 4-11 September for the 4th time. To say it was like "coming home" is a vast understatement. Not only were we warmly welcomed by Takis, the sweet and avuncular patriarch of the Gabras family, but also had the opportunity to meet the second brother Aggelos (who we had met only briefly fist visit). We greatly enjoyed having the opportunity get to to know the younger brother better and, of course, Dimitris is always his wonderful self. The matriarch of the family, sweet lovely Maria was also present, so we had a chance to visit the entire family! Our villa was as welcoming and heavenly as always. Spotless, welcoming and comfortable, as we remember, and we moved into the rhythms of Naxos life easily. The private pool was, as always, crystal clear and slightly chilly, a nice bracing dip mornings and post-beach are refreshing and standing in the pool surveying the arid surroundings is doubly wonderful! We also had a knock on our door shortly after we arrived and two women from Germany, who were staying in the villa next door, welcomed us and introduced themselves. We became fast friends and invited them to come visit, they brought several bottles of wine and a tray of fruit, which we all enjoyed al fresco on the pool patio for several hours. What fun! We then learned that they had been invited by Maria to learn how to make her heavenly moussaka made from just-picked (from the on-site garden) eggplants. The day after the two women had their 'moussaka class' we were blessed with a plate with four enormous servings of this incomparably delicious Greek dish! Mornings, we would head over to the covered patio to meet up with our neighbors while they had breakfast (we are not big breakfast eaters), we were always offered coffees, eggs, fried fresh bread with cheese and enjoyed the conversation and hospitality of Takis, Dimitris and Aggelos. Each night, we slept soundly, enjoyed a slow morning catching up on work remotely, then usually headed to the local beach, Mikri Vigla, for the day, returning late afternoon to enjoy the wonder of our villa, blissfully peaceful, cleaned and polished up for our return. En route from the parking lot, we always stopped to wonder at the hedge (as in HEDGE) of fresh rosemary and lavender, as bees joyfully flew from flower to flower Our week passed so quickly, it was hard to believe that it was so soon to depart. Sad goodbyes and nostalgia took hold as we said farewell for 2021! The Gabras family's hospitality makes a stay here more like a family reunion, and how we all enjoy this! We think of Sand Lily and the Gabras family often throughout the year, our Naxian home away from home always calls us back!
