Shenshan Villa is an excellent hot spring hotel. The room is beautiful and comfortable, and it also comes with an outdoor hot spring, so you can relax and enjoy the view. Breakfast and dinner provide a rich variety of cuisine, allowing you to taste a variety of delicious food. The most surprising thing is that all this is affordable, allowing you to enjoy a first-class experience at a reasonable price. Overall, Shenshan Villa is an excellent choice, whether you are looking for relaxation, good food or affordable accommodation, this place can meet your needs.

Miyama Sansou opened in 2014 with all rooms as private rooms, following in the footsteps of Shinmeikan, with 120 years of tradition, and Yamamizuki, which opened in 1989. Compared to Yamamizuki, the facilities were naturally better, but the so-called Western I felt more scent In terms of customer service, the downside is that you can't expect omotenashi. However, the kaiseki and room condition were great.

I finally chose this one among the thousands of Kurokawa Onsen. Except that it is a bit far from the main street and takes about 20 minutes to walk, everything else is very good. If you come in the glorious spring, it will make you even more happy, haha. When entering the hotel, you need to check the reservation name, take the initiative to carry the suitcase, and introduce the hotel facilities. It is larger than the traditional family hot spring hotel. The rooms are villas, including twin beds, living room, toilet, shower, indoor private bath, etc. The banquet cuisine was average, but I met a Chinese waiter during the meal and the communication was smooth. Overall, it is a very good hot spring hotel. It is recommended if you charter a car or drive yourself.

This Kyushu self-drive trip was incredibly packed with experiences. We stayed at three different hot spring resorts along the way, and I'll introduce them one by one. Before heading up to Mt. Aso, I'd recommend spending a night at the Kurokawa Onsen area to really relax and unwind at the hot springs before continuing on your jam-packed itinerary. There are tons of ryokans to choose from in Kurokawa, and this time we picked a more remote one located up in the mountains called "Yamamizuki Bettei Miyama Sansou". With only a handful of rooms, it provides a wonderfully serene and peaceful stay. The Japanese-style and Western-style accommodation package with 1 night and 2 meals comes out to about 34,000 yen per person. The service, food quality, and overall resort standards are all absolutely top-notch. Highly recommended! ✨Check-in✨ The check-in process was very smooth. After completing check-in, the staff even drove us to our accommodation in a golf cart - a really fun experience! ✨Japanese-Style Room✨ Our room was a standalone cottage with two separate spaces, occupying a huge area with excellent layout. The room has both Japanese and Western-style elements, with a very comfortable Japanese-style living room. The room has a huge private onsen, surrounded by a private Japanese garden for maximum privacy. We could take a stroll in the garden and enjoy coffee while admiring the river views in the morning. ✨Kaiseki Dinner✨ The seasonal ingredients used in the multi-course kaiseki dinner were beautifully presented and delicious. The highlight was the perfectly-cooked wagyu beef, with the fat evenly distributed and seared to a medium-rare perfection that just melts in your mouth. They also have a great selection of Japanese sake at reasonable prices - we enjoyed a couple of small cups. ✨Japanese Breakfast✨ Breakfast was a pleasant surprise! Instead of the usual buffet-style spread, it was a carefully curated set menu. The delicately steamed seasonal vegetables were incredibly sweet and tasty, accompanied by Japanese rice and other side dishes - a wonderfully nourishing start to the day. P.S. The resort is located deep in the mountains, so I'd recommend it for self-driving travelers. Just be very careful driving on the mountain roads, and try to arrive before sunset.

Although the room had a thatched roof, there was floor heating inside the room, making it very comfortable. The water temperature in the indoor bath was just right. Yamamizuki's open-air bath is only open to hotel guests after 3pm, so you can take a relaxing bath. I thought it would be a hassle to walk to the restaurant for dinner in the cold, but the cloak provided in the room for walking outside looked like a Meiji literary master, so I was excited to walk around in the geta and cloak.

It was a wonderful stay. It consists of a thatched-roofed outbuilding, and the interior is clean and spacious. The bath was filled with colorless hot springs with a faint sulfur smell, the bed was comfortable with crisp sheets and futons, and the dinner was a delicious Kaiseki meal. Local specialties were eaten. The open-air bath was nice, but the sister hotel, Yamamizuki, was even more spectacular. Unfortunately, some of the employees were blunt and didn't smile. All I wanted was to see her off on the way home.

From the center of Kurokawa Onsen, we drove 2-3 km east on a narrow mountain road where it was difficult to even pass oncoming cars. In such a mountain, this "Miyama Sanso" and its sister hotel "Yama Mizuki" are built. Miyama Sanso is dotted with separate guest rooms, bathhouses, and restaurants on a large site in the forest. The open-air bath is especially recommended. Mokko's hot spring, also known as ``Muranaka no Yu Tayu Tayu,'' has an open-air bath at the back of the indoor bath. It was a very nice open-air bath, with the Tanohara River flowing right next to it and being surrounded by the river and forest, so there was no artificial blindfold.

About 5 minutes east of the narrow, winding mountain road from the hot spring town of Kurokawa Onsen, there was the ``Miyama Sanso.'' The Tanohara River flows right next to the inn and right next to the open-air bath, and the area is completely surrounded by a forest. There is a sister inn called ``Yama Mizuki'' right next door, but the only other inn in both of them is the forest. This hot spring was written on the curtain at the entrance as ``Muranaka no Yu Tayu Tayu''. There is a nice rest room inside, an indoor bath, and an open-air bath if you go further. It was a wonderful open-air bath surrounded by forests and rivers.

This time I visited Kurokawa Onsen for a day trip. This drop-in bath was wonderful. I was surprised to find that the day ticket was from a retro vending machine, giving it a Showa era feel. I visited the place after lunchtime, and since it was reserved for private use, I was able to enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot water. It was the best hot water.
