Xinyu Inn (Beihong Village)

When you come to Mohe, you don't have to stay in Beiji Village, but I strongly recommend staying at Beihong Village, especially if you come from a high-pressure, fast-paced city. Come here to experience a simple, slow-paced life (although many drivers and guides will tell you that Beihong Village is small and you can just drive around it, you'll know its beauty once you stay). The room we booked is right by the river, you could call it a river-view room! Russia is right across the river! We chose a heated kang (heated brick bed) room. Beihong Village doesn't use radiators, they use charcoal, so the room is warm but not dry! (During my few days in Mohe, the radiators almost made me crack from the dryness). For activities like splashing water to create ice, you don't need to go to Beiji Village to pay for it; just ask the owner for a bottle of hot water and a tool. You'll be the coolest kid on the block! If you want to set off fireworks, you can ask the owner to buy them for you or have them delivered. We had a great time with fireworks in the evening. Regarding meals, we arrived in the afternoon and ordered dinner for two: stir-fried eggs with wood ear mushrooms, stir-fried meat with wild mushrooms (picked by the owner himself), and stewed cabbage and tofu with vermicelli. Three dishes—we couldn't finish them all! 🌝🌝 We ordered breakfast from the owner for 10 yuan per person. My husband said it was delicious. The owner only started cooking the porridge when we got up. We were leaving the next afternoon, so we ordered lunch from the owner again: dumplings and stir-fried shredded potatoes with vinegar. Very hearty and delicious! (We also tried the most popular restaurant online, Han She Jia, while in Beihong, but...it was just so-so! It's much more down-to-earth to chat at the owner's house and watch him cook.) The food in Beihong Village is pretty much the same in every household, all homemade. The prices are also a bit more affordable than in Beiji Village. It's clean and hygienic (especially the clean restrooms, which I believe is a big plus for many clean-loving people). My husband was still eager to go back, so we visited several places in Northeast China. He said Beihong Village is the only place he still wants to visit and linger in! He wants to go again in the summer! And stay at the owner's house!

We booked a room by the river, which overlooks Russia! Even working people on vacation are governed by work, so we just watched wave after wave of people strolling and taking pictures along the riverside path! The owners were incredibly kind! We stayed two nights, and one day the landlady even knocked on our door to tell us we saw the Northern Lights (so kind of her!). They heat the heated floor (kang) in the evening, making the room very warm! Our room wasn't connected to the floor, but some rooms do!

The guesthouse wasn't on the main street, but on the second street, which I thought was even better. The river was right behind the guesthouse, so you could easily take a walk along the riverbank right outside. We had dinner at the guesthouse and ordered chicken stew with mushrooms. The owner cooked it in a home-style style, which was quite good. The vegetables with dipping sauce were freshly picked from the garden, very fresh. We needed to travel the next day, so we asked the owner to boil four eggs. He didn't charge us, thank you!

The owner is nice, and the hygiene is acceptable.
