For our family holiday at Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Udawalawe, I had my teenage son (19 years) and my mum (70’s ) and it exceeded our expectations. Spacious and wonderful tent, the beds were so comfy, with the amazing food and presentation- the chef is a magician! Back to nature with a slice of luxury in the wild. The staff are so friendly and attentive, ever ready to personalise our itinerary. Most importantly, we had the loveliest and amazingly knowledgeable guide/naturalist Heshan and our very experienced driver for our safaris. We saw so many birds and elephants. He truly has a real passion for what he does! We had a fabulous time.

I went with my 4 girlfriends on this trip. We stayed in the bigger Luxury tents and we had a wonderful experience. Not only was the safari and the night walk amazing but what really made the trip was the staff. Everyone was so attentive and friendly and always in a good mood. We felt really comfortable and safe. On our safari Solomons was our guide and he made the whole experience even better. He is really knowledgeable and explained to us every animal we saw and how they life. Especially when it comes to birds it was impressive as he knew every bird by heart. The night walk was also wonderful we got to see how the farmers life and watch the sunset from a big rock. Moreover did we get to see different plants and what they are used for which was extremely interesting. I would definitely book this trip again. Not only did we learn a lot about animals but we also had a fantastic time with the staff and the dinners at the bonfire.

From the moment we arrived, the team here made us feel at home. Such a great experience for our family to be immersed in nature. The camp setup was perfect with all the luxuries you would need and Solomon was well versed at educating and entertaining going above and beyond to teach the kids about all the wildlife. We will defiantly be back! (One day)

I can’t recommend this place enough! I am a solo 26 year old female traveller and Solomon instantly put me at ease after a terrible journey (weather, motion sickness, loss of bank card etc!). Solomon is kind, funny and very wise about all the animals. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. I didn’t realise a camping experience could be so luxurious. The tents feel like something from Harry Potter and I fell asleep to the sound of rain. The dinner was excellent and even the wine! I had the best nights sleep in Sri Lanka so far. And then there was the safari… no words!! We saw so many elephants, of different ages, and a big male one too. We also saw crocs, lots of birds including eagles, water buffalo, spotted deer, wild boar. As a vet by profession I was conscious of some safari experiences not being so ethical but we stuck to the dirt tracks and let the animals pass as they pleased, so they were never harassed. I would highly recommend doing the 6am safari to see the most wildlife.

We paid 400$ for a tent with running water, toilet and shower but there was no water! The staff kept telling us that the monkeys toyed with the pumps . Not true the well was dry and the pumps were not working! Just tell us the truth! That being said the food was good, the staff tried hard. The tour was great. Don’t stay there because there are other places to stay in a tent!

It was quite an experience sleeping under canvas on the edge of Udawalwe National Park. The tents were hot although there were fans circulating the air. The elite tents were nicely secluded from each other and furnished like the photos. The evening dinner was good and the stars above were brilliant. The safari was good although the terrain was extremely uneven not to be attempted if you have a bad back or neck. We saw 32 elephants, many birds, deer, water buffalo and crocodiles. It was expensive but worth it.

Way over priced, the water in our bathroom did not work for the two days we were there. The staff tried hard but the accommodations are not aligned with the price. I don’t recommend staying here. Tent was hot even with the fans, tough to sleep. Again for a $400 price point and called VIP at the very least the water should work.

The staff at Mahoora went above and beyond to make sure our family had the best stay possible. Solomon was a wonderful guide and helped us find over 30 elephants at Udawalawe, the food was amazing, and the night in the tent was surprisingly comfortable. Great for kids, great for elephants and just a wonderful time overall.
