The hotel is located well next to the lake, and the pools are decent. However this is certainly not a 5 star hotel. The rooms are a good size and have good views. Not sure why anyone would pay extra for a lake view room though as all rooms have a view of the lake, just some over the pools. There is a rather disconcerting photo of a bunch of old farmers with pitchforks overlooking the bed which isn’t great. There is an espresso machine, but no milk or sugar anywhere to be seen. The service is the thing that really lets this hotel down. Staff are nice enough although not particularly warm. But the service takes forever. We ordered a beer and cocktail from the pool bar and they said they would bring it to our table. It took 45 minutes to arrive, with no one else in the queue. Each day our food orders would take a huge amount of time to arrive, and once our food arrived after 45 minutes, and our drinks came after an hour. It makes no sense as it wasn’t super busy and there were plenty of serving staff. It is really disappointing as there aren’t many close options around, but even so we felt compelled to drive 25 mins each evening to the nearest town to escape the poor service of the hotel. With a management change and better training, this hotel could be a place I could return to, but I can say here and now that I won’t ever be coming back
I struck gold with this hotel. I booked close to a company where I was to have a meeting the following day, so I didn't do a lot of research. The place is truly magnificent. The setting, scenery, the buildings, the rooms, all of it. The room was spacious and luxuriously furnished, with windows looking on to the infinity pool and the reservoir waters beyond, a view only partially blocked by a line of majestic palms. I was, astonishingly, the only guest (a Monday in November...), but was truly well looked after. Although the restaurant was ”closed”, Miguel (the chef), said he would prepare a dinner for me. What a delight for the senses. Excellent, creatively prepared food with local and seasonal ingredients. It was like having my own private chef for the evening. A very good night's sleep in a very quiet room, and a comfortable bed. The room has a massive TV, a huge split bathroom (double washbasin, shower, toilet), and is equipped with a coffee machine with a handful of capsules (I enjoyed a coffee on the terrace outside before I even went for breakfast). The service was impeccable. I realise that it was off-season and the room rate can be double what I paid, but even then it would be well worth the money. Thanks Miguel. I look forward to trying more of your food!
