Le Merrill - Vieux Montréal

The check-in process is very difficult. There isn’t a place to store your bags if you arrive early, which means you have to schlep luggage around the city in the snow or rain. The room was clean, however, one of the beds is wet because I think they rushed the laundry. The walls are very thin, and you can hear all of the work and activities outside all night and early morning. It’s a nice place, but there are much better hotels for less money.

This property has an amazing location, lots of space and was perfect for our weekend in Montreal. 😊

I have no idea where the nasty reviews came from, because our experience was great. First, the communication with the host was very prompt and informative. We had no problems with checking in on line, detailed instructions came as expected, the lockbox was easy to use, everything as promised. It is not really a "hotel" because the check in is airbnb-style, but the description on the website is accurate. The apartment was exactly like in the pictures, very spacious, with well equipped kitchen. Yes you need to bring your own food including coffee, but what do you expect? Fully stocked fridge?! There was paper towel and toilet paper, soap and shampoo, plenty of towels. The apartment was spotlessly clean. We had a room with 3 double beds, one was behind a screen and not really isolated but still giving some privacy. The ceiling lights were not working in this small semi-room but there was a lamp, so it was not a problem. All other lights were fine. True to previous complaints, there were no curtains in the windows but the blinds worked very well, so how could this be a problem? The furniture was new, beds very comfortable. Maybe the pillows were on firms side, but that's the matter of personal preference. There was one amusing twist, the coat closet was so high that we could hardly hang our coats! I am 5'10 and my husband is 6'2, I don't know how shorter persons could manage. We had a good laugh standing on our toes trying to hang the coats :) Truly, we were expecting worse after reading the nasty review and we were very pleasantly surprised. Maybe cleaners couldn't keep with the fast peace in the busy summer period, that's the only explanation for possible shortcomings. But there weren't any when we stayed. The location cannot be better, and the value is excellent. I would definitely recommend this place.

I thought this was a great room. It does give aibnb vibes for a boutique hotel, so if you want hotel amenities I would look elsewhere. The room was clean and very spacious, the building was quiet and cool. Its contactless check-in, no concierge just a lockbox with keys but getting in was no problem. I think, at this price point it was a great deal.

Beautiful apartment, well located at a midpoint between the east and west ends of the Old Montreal area, making it easy to explore the area. Apartment was clean. Beds & pillows were comfy. Towels soft and fluffy. Concerns: -window to fire escape was screwed shut with L-brackets. What if there was a fire by the front door or hallway? How would we get out? -communication was not good. There’s no staff. I sent many messages to the property using the chat within the ******* app. No response. I called the number and the guy said he would get right back to me. He never did :( Fortunately we didn’t have anything requiring urgency (like a lost room key) , can’t imagine how a matter like that would be handled with no staff and poor communication channels -apartment could use some minor maintenances and repairs (water damage to baseboards in bathroom, scuffed walls, light bulbs not working). This stuff didn’t bother us, but if you are particular, it might be an issue Overall a very nice place for the price.

Extremely well located apartment near Notre Dame. Spacious. No noise at night. Like others have stated, there can be a foul smell in the bathroom sometimes, but it wouldn’t stop me from staying here because I love the space, the three beds and the location.

This place has the potential to be amazing! Great location and aesthetic and tons of space for multiple guests. However, checking in was a new experience for me. They required me to upload images of ID and selfies for all four guests before being given access to the codes to enter the building. Considering I was travelling with underage children, there should have been an option to bypass this security feature. I ended up sending photos of the back of my phone case which were apparently accepted which surprised me considering it was deemed a security requirement. We had two TV's in the room. Neither worked. One wouldn't turn on and had no remote control and the other had a remote and power, however had no working inputs to be useable. The TV was greasy and I avoided touching it. The first visit to the bathroom resulted in the door handle falling off. There was a bad smell in the closet that housed the hot water tank. There is no staff on site and no response was received when I texted their number back. A call to the same number indicated it was in Texas. When I did a dummy check before leaving, it was obvious that the hardwood under the bed hadn't been cleaned in some time with visible dust bunnies underneath. The bathroom could have also been cleaner. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen stocked with pots and pans, cutlery, dishes, wine glasses...but no coffee for the morning.

We had a very pleasant stay A few things would’ve made it a lot better one if we had all the amenities it states on the description and or have been provided them once we submitted a request. Also, a back up sewer smell in the bathroom was pretty bad. The place was dusty

Awful service never responded left us in a room, and we couldn’t occupy because of the smell of mold and mildew no response from the property
