We booked a room at Casa Embrujo (the Sirrah Junior Suite) to stay during a wedding. Availability in the city was low overall, and it seem they overbooked their 3 room hotel. Trouble started before we arrived. They reached out directly via Whatsapp requesting my credit card details in order to “enforce the cancellation policy” even though we had selected the “pay at property” option at **********. We didn’t provide them, but that probably led us to be bumped from our room. When we first arrived, we were in a hurry to get to the wedding and didn’t make much of the fact that they told us that our room was off property and in what was clearly a bungalow in the owner’s house. They were helpful in opening up the parking lot when we arrived sometime after 11pm. However, then we started to notice that some things were off. Our bed was not king size, the bathtub in the bathroom looked dirty and we couldn’t find how to close the curtain on a skylight. Next morning we were inevitably woken up by the light shining in through the skylight. We finally started to make sense of what had happened to us once we went for breakfast. The restaurant was in the main building. We had some good breakfast in a good setting (a terrace at the top). On our way down, housekeeping was cleaning the room that we had booked. We got a chance to look inside and the difference was enormous. It was a proper hotel room, well illuminated and what we had paid for. When checking out we complained to the person at reception, but she didn’t have much to say. We were clearly ripped off. We really needed a room and would probably have paid around the same (but realistically considerably less once we got to compare rooms) to stay. The part that is not fair is that they deceived us, double booked our room and still charged us the same. Avoid booking a room here
