The view is great. It is more enjoyable to see the sea in the room than other hotels. There is an old elevator over 100 years old. The sanitary services are very thoughtful. The rooms are upgraded! There are also big bouquets of flowers in each room, but they are yellow chrysanthemums (the lobby is white chrysanthemums)😄. The TV wiring is not good and needs to be repaired. The old man who always folded paper in the restaurant is no longer here. It is a little regrettable. There are many guests, but fewer European and American guests.

Arrived very late and we’re still welcome
D with non alcoholic freshly made juice for my self and my littlest extremely accomodating at such a late hour breakfast was a buffet setup with. Oth Western European and traditional Sri Lanka cuisines and we still pretty much could order anything anyway - my daughter wanted western style eggs fried sunny side up on toast cracked them right there in front of here the view was incredible from our room you could hear the ocean crash against the rocks only wish we could have stayed longer really good people place service was exceptional- you. E nice they be nice easy peasy xox

Colonial era hotel in a wonderful setting, beautiful sea view rooms where you can watch the sunset from your balcony every night. Superb breakfast on the sea edge terrace, excellent choice of food catering for all tastes. Staff always friendly and helpful, in particular great help and advice from Tashani the Guest Service Manager who was very attentive to our needs.

Charming, beachfront hotel steeped in 220 years of history and within sight of Colombo. Flanked by golden sandy beaches on either side and with a secluded beach at the front. In addition the dining areas are adjacent to an excellent outdoor swimming pool. A wide ranging buffet is available at breakfast, lunch and dinner times as well as an a la carte menu. Dinner is accompanied by a live jazz band on the weekend. Guests are greeted by a lovely welcoming smile from GSO Tashani who is very attentive and patient and may even enlighten you on the secret love story of Lavinia. Maintenance of this large old hotel is challenging and may not suit guests who require everything to be in pristine condition but the accommodation rates are attractive for such a charming beachfront location. There is a railway station nearby. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and ended up staying longer.
