We’re only a couple days into our stay and I’m frustrated and disappointed. The frustration started with the check in process. We arrived early and knew a room may not be available. We were told we would receive a text message as soon as one was cleaned and ready. We sat in the lobby adjacent, just 20 feet away from the desk waiting. We observe several people leaving the counter with room keys in hand. Some friends of ours checked in while we were sitting in the lobby and were given a room with a $25 early check in fee. That was never offered to us. I approached the desk to inquire why we hadn’t received a text message if a room became available and why people arriving after us were given rooms. No good answer BUT good news they have a room. I inquire about the microwave I had reserved weeks prior. Oh those are all spoken for sorry. Get to our room, it only has 1 bed I called down to the desk and was asked if I had touched anything in the room upon entering. I was asked to return to the front desk to get my new room keys. Upon entering our room we notice it’s rather warm. Fiddle with the thermostat unit which is set to 65 and there’s no difference in the fan speed between high medium and low. Next day call the front desk to request AC service and fresh towels. Nothing. Called again. Nothing. Next morning, called again and received towels. Supposedly the air was fixed while we were out for the day, but nothing has changed in regards to comfort. The pillows are terrible and the beds are on the soft side. The hotel is ready for some upgrades as the carpet is worn and dirty throughout the hallways. The housekeeping staff was friendly and helpful, oh and one housekeeper was able to find me a microwave that the front desk staff insisted was not available. Hmmm

The hotel is very old, the bedding is very old, it feels like it will break if washed again, and it is not very clean. If there is still a choice, I don't recommend it. There is free parking at the hotel entrance. There is a McDonald's next door. I don't know if it is due to renovation during my stay, only the entrance for car ordering is open. There are many homeless nearby. If you go out late at night, it is best to carry a little cash with you in case of emergency.

20-30 minute ride from airport. No shuttle. Great quesadilla the first night, better than most, at the Thistle & Thyme on-site restaurant. Delicious, huge pancake, bacon and tasty hot chocolate the next morning. Microwave near reception. Beautiful Chihuly apprentice glass installation visible from numerous locations. Clean, tidy rooms. Reading light on headboard perfect! More hotels should realize people need to be able to see to read or plan/adjust travel itineraries. Special praise and thank you to Jake in the restaurant and especially to Hanna, fifth floor housekeeper for her polite service, kind and friendly attitude, both should be considered valued staff members. Two stars sleep quality - sunken area in mattress. Numerous pillows - but all hard. Low toilet.

I'm not tall, but the folks at the hotel are so enthusiastic and helpful! They told me that the hotel used to be a bank, and that the vault was currently repurposed for use in the kitchen (? - maybe I'm misremembering). The tall floor? They built it because the Kimpton Monaco is where the basketball players stay when they come into town to play - they made a whole floor with elevated counters and super tall doors. It's a funky little feature and my kids got a kick out of peeking down the hall... Otherwise the place was excellent! Friendly, cheerful, and incredibly thoughtful! The room was spacious, super clean, and stylish, as Kimpton rooms are. My kids and I loved the board games in the lobby, the cold tea and water (July is HOT in Utah!), and the exercise room tucked into a space over the entryway but not at all crowded! Place is easy, easy walking distance to some excellent sights and restaurants, even in the hot weather. Overall a terrific choice!

Good: comfortable beds; refrigerator, microwave; fairly quiet given the location to the interstate and airport. Bad: Hidden and disingenuous COVID cleaning policy. This may be a corporate policy, but in my opinion and my traveling companion’s opinion, this hotel went out of its way not to tell guests that rooms won’t be cleaned unless you ask, and ask before 11 a.m. EVERY day of your stay. I called the hotel in advance of booking a stay and asked about the cleaning policy and was assured they clean the rooms daily. Nope. We arrived late for a four-day stay and put a “do not disturb” door hanger on the door the first night. We left the next morning around 10 a.m. and when we returned that evening, our room was not cleaned. Thinking the do-not-disturb sign may have been the reason, we asked the front desk clerk on our way out the second day of our stay to please clean our room. We returned to a mostly clean room (there was dried blood on one mattress pad and covering as shown in the photos). The next two days our room was not cleaned (a burgeoning mess), and so on our last frustrating day, we called the front desk to complain and were told that it was up to us to request service before 11 a.m. each day. She said there was or should be a card in the room on the desk or the bedside table that explains their policy. Only there wasn’t. After looking around, we finally found a small laminated card hidden in a drawer that explained the policy. In a drawer! This policy should be posted in writing at the front desk, explained on check-in and posted in a visible location such as a room’s bathroom. Had that courtesy been extended, it would have made a significant difference in our attitude. As for the COVID threat as it relates to cleaning and protecting guests, none of the cleaning staff observable in the hall wore a mask or gloves. Only one staff member wore a mask during our stay. Perhaps one of every 20 guests wore a mask. The rest were maskless, and it was a mosh pit in the breakfast area. So the rhetorical question is whether or not COVID is still being used as an excuse to save money or if it is because of a lack of cleaning personnel.
