Mataki Motel

I have stayed here 3 times now and it keeps getting better nice clean rooms and close to town for a pizza. We travel with our dog, and it has never been a problem we are always welcome. We will be back for sure can't wait to see the outcome of all the new reno work that's going on

We have stayed here before in a smaller room.This time we had a large room with large bathroom and it was very comfortable. The unit had been renovated to a high standard. It is a short walk into Murchison for dinner. I would recommend this motel.

Very clean and comfortable accommodation. Small room but adequate for our one night stay. Kitchen has very limited bench space - would be better if microwave was wall mounted in order to free up bench. Parking right outside our room was great and nice outlook to farm next door.

We stayed there for one night in a family unit - 2 couples and one toddler. Rooms have been clean and tidy, though family unit (2 bedrooms and couch) felt for our party a bit crowded. Staff at reception (or was it the manager?) was disappointing. The elderly gent clearly didn't like to deal with customer requests. The first time we asked for linen for the spare bed (which we booked and the hotel confirmed in writing) he told us we should have told them. Well, we did at booking time and the hotel confirmed this request. He then complained about the cleaning staff (for forgetting this request) and walked away (to bring us some time later the bedding). An hour later we asked for a plunger (which should be standard equipment in these rooms). His first reaction was: "This is already your second request". Well, we didn't dare to come with any other requests (e.g. the advertised spa was there but did not work). He later brought a plunger and explained they removed them from the rooms because "they get legs". A wedding party in an adjacent room was pretty noisy during the night - bad timing. But - overall - room is clean and mainly ok (unless you expect the advertised spa to work and want a plunger for your coffee), Supplies (sugar, tea), are the absolut minimum the motel can get away with. Reception experience was substandard. We don't like to be made uncomfortable for justified requests. Will try to find next time a motel with friendlier reception.

You get what you pay for, small rooms, no instructions for working TV, internet didn't load either Would not recommend it, better places in murchison to stay than here Couldn't even find the light switches Very ordinary, but quiet Very dated

The rooms are very clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, the price is affordable, they are close to food outlets, but the location is quiet and peaceful they have a swimming pool and a small guests library these motels have everything you need for your stay in Murchison

This was an unexpected highlight for 2 nights on our way to Motueka after biking the West Coast Wilderness Trail. Quiet motel on the outskirts of town but just 10 minutes walk away from the shops. Lots of space in our 2 bedroom unit which their online photos don't show. True the tv didn't have all the channels we'd hoped for, and we had to ask for more cutlery (as we were 5 not 4 people), and bench space is limited. But the wifi was good, it had a full stove AND a swimming pool which we used until we found the fantastic local swimming hole at the river. Staff were very helpful to all our requests.
