Definitely our favourite hotel in Rwanda. The rooms were spacious with large beds, the food was delicious and there were some lovely extra touches such as cleaning our hiking boots and providing gaiters. Beautiful and luxury lodge with private cabin. Excellent service, good food! They loaned us gators for our trek; they even cleaned our boots after. The greenery surrounding the lodge is so beautiful. We sat on the patio listening to the birds.

I could not love this hotel more. We were booking a little late and didn’t love the options our travel agent presented. I found this on trip advisor and couldn’t find a lot other than consistent trip advisor reviews (note to management: you need a website with great search engine optimization showcasing your amazing hotel!) Perks of hotel: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, perfect location 5 minutes from national park where ALL gorilla treks start, delicious food, beautiful location. Rooms are large, exceptionally clean, great shower, comfortable bed. For context my typical hotel I book is a four seasons or a Westin. You cannot go wrong with this hotel. I will definitely be back and recommend to anyone going gorilla trekking.

There were many good things about this accommodations- the staff was absolutely excellent. Very accommodating, attentive, friendly. They were fantastic and I’d give them 6 stars if I could! Food was good, but took a long time to prepare so you have to plan ahead. The rooms were ok- no screen on the balcony door so we wouldn’t leave the door open because bugs got in our rooms also you need the key to open and close the balcony door which was annoying (and we only had one key to share so if someone left the other person couldn’t lock the door). Low water pressure in the shower, no cream for the coffee in the room, little things like that, but nothing too bad. What I really didn’t like was how over priced the drinks were. Almost $400 for a bottle of $30 champagne (it’s one thing for pay a lot for an expensive bottle of champagne and it’s another to price gouge the tourist). It really stressed me out because I had planned to get drinks for my sister’s birthday celebration but that was exuberant! Luckily they allowed us to bring in an outside bottle, but I had to pay/tip our tour guide to go out and find it, which took a few hours which meant we missed our afternoon activity we had hoped to do. I am going back and fourth between three or four stars for this hotel. I decided to round up because I really liked and appreciated their staff!

WOW! This is a really nice property, located quite close to trekking, so it was not only nice, but convenient. The rooms were quite spacious, and patios very private. Unfortunately, the spa was not operational during our visit, so I cannot speak to that, but the staff was incredible! We were greeted and treated like royalty from the beginning of our stay to our departure. Upon our return from our gorilla trek, staff actually collected our shoes, socks and gators and returned them to us later that day sparkling clean. This was the only accommodation that didn’t charge extra for a special coffee, such as a mocha or cappuccino. We loved it!

The Virunga lodge is simply superb in every way. A butler ensures that every aspect of your stay goes smoothly and nothing is too much for the attentive staff. We were there for 3 days this month as a base to see the Gorillas. The food was excellent. Lots of fresh veggies and a great selection for all aspects of each meal The accommodation was lovely with even a small fire in your bedroom if requested and a terrific outdoor shower. The spa (free) is an essential post gorilla trecking offering and is a must. We were also fortunate to have the local original dance group perform one evening. Lastly it is small and intimate only around 10-12 independent villas. In sum, it was a terrific place to stay and I would thoroughly recommend it for those going to visit the mountain gorillas.

My husband and myself stayed at Virunga after our Gorilla trekking. It is an excellent hotel with garden views and we were welcomed by the friendly staff who also cleaned our dirty shoes after our trekking immediately! The chef went an extra mile to cook us an Indian cuisine.

I had a terrific stay at Virunga. The rooms are very large and well appointed, with views of the lovely garden. The views of the volcanoes from the outdoor seating/dining area are beautiful. Above all, the service was superb. Ornella took great care of me before I even left the U.S., making sure I had arranged the permit to see the gorillas and helping me find an excellent driver for several days. The wait staff and porters were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food was terrific. Thanks Virunga for a wonderful visit!
