Beautiful botanical gardens. Visited for a day with a couple of friends. The scenery is marvelous and the place is well maintained. Quite and perfect for a stroll date as well lol. Fell in love with their chicken wrap and if I had to pick a place in Mutare I would pick La Rochelle again

Lovely environment, gardens and food. A throwback into history. Food was lovely and staff were efficient and kind. As a stickler for great accomodation, I was a tad disappointed with the musty, aged rooms. If you are not fussy, you will be okay.

A lovely half term getaway - we used the self catering lodge but spent most of our days at Smallbridge dam, a 30 minute drive from the resort. It was lovely coming back in the evenings to a clean, comfortable bed and hot shower. We did spend one very restful day at the resort and made the most of all on offer - hikes, fishing in the pond, massages, lawn games, high tea, etc. If you do want to self cater the kitchen is basic and all appliances electric so highly suggest traveling with a gas ring & skottle so you can still cook if there’s a power cut. The hotel was accommodating though on lending the lodge utensils that the house lacked.

We were there for three days in mid-February 2024 at a time with good weather. The hotel was virtually empty for the first two nights and only started filling on the third which was school holiday weekend. The service was very good and efficient throughout, meals were also very good as was the cleanliness. The major features of the place were the magnificent gardens tied with the history of the venue. The costs were slightly high for a Zimbabwean hotel but worth it for the overall experience. We would recommend it for a getaway to the country for a peaceful break from the city.

What a fabulous hotel, steeped in history and nostalgia of a bygone era. I was fascinated with the history of this grand old lady. The botanic gardens need a little bit of TLC and the cottage we stayed in was a bit dated and musty but walking around the main hotel we found everything to be clean and up to date with wonderful touches of the original fittings. Staff were all welcoming and friendly and food was delicious.

I did not stay overnight but visited La Rochelle a number of times with a visiting friend. We made use of much of the amenities including spending many hours in the botanical gardens, viewing the very impressive greenhouses, hiking the trails through the forests and dining there one evening. The botanical gardens are honestly the most beautiful I've seen in Zimbabwe, the grounds are all so well maintained and we never ran out of things to see. The meal we had was an excellent standard and we felt so well looked after by the server. Will definitely be visiting again.

Had the privilege of visiting this beautiful place in Mutare . La Rochelle has a beautiful nursery with some of the most exotic orchids I’ve ever seen . The gardens are immaculately kept and enhance any and every dining experience . Unfortunately, despite the service team being welcoming, Catherine, who was serving me, informed me that I couldn't order a fillet steak for lunch because they were unwilling to slice it from the roll. This made me uncomfortable and uncertain, as I had no clear understanding of the requirements of getting the desired steak cut besides being a paying customer, in order to obtain what I wanted. That said the sirloin steak I ended up begrudgingly having was done well with a side serving of a fresh vegetable salad and fries pepper sauce , it was satisfying. So if you aren’t too fussy about variety and options then it’s absolutely going to be a great visit for you when you decide to come to Mutare .
