The public bath is not very big, but it was very clean and nice. The room is still new and very clean, so I think it was good to use it. Also, even though I was late for check-in, I felt comfortable with a very good response. There were many kinds of breakfast, and it was so big that I could not eat all kinds. In addition, we thought that we wanted to use if there was opportunity.

Excellent hotel with all the convenience you need made available seamlessly. The location is excellent with easy access to the expressway and convenient stalls and restaurants are a short drive away. The hotel breakfast is excellent for a budget hotel standard with a good variety of food to select from. I stayed 8 days in a row and we never got bored with the breakfast.

The atmosphere is different from the usual hotels and inns, but I was able to spend a calm time in a clean environment! I would like to stay again if I have another chance. Thank you very much!

We stayed here at the end of our time in Japan as a treat and for the traditional Japanese inn / onsen experience and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The room was huge and the seating area was seamlessly converted for sleeping by the hotel staff while we ate our dinner. The food was traditional Japanese with seemingly endless small plates of delicacies (a similar story at breakfast). The onsen was fabulous - we used it 3 times in the one night we were there and loved it. All in all a great experience and lovely place to stay.

If there is no discount, the price is 55000 yen for two people. I used it because it was GoTo. I expected that word of mouth was good, but it is very disappointing as a conclusion. GoTo thinks it's a good chance for the inn to win repeaters after this, but repeats are never possible. First of all, there is no inn. When I arrived at the scenery hall while looking at the famous inn that gave up from Obushi to Yamada Onsen by free transfer bus for budget convenience, I felt honestly dark. I felt like I was older and inferior to other inns. I was guided to the room and immediately said rude things like ”let's make another inn next time” with my friend. However, when I took the bus again for one night, I changed to ”I want to come again soon! I don't want to stay at the landscape museum”. First of all, when I said that my leg was bad at the time of booking, I was able to set a table and chair in the room with a bed and the room in front of it to eat, but thanks to the consideration, there was no inconvenience We had a comfortable stay. The hot water was good and the facilities were clean even if they were old. The food was delicious and the number of items was about this, so I left it. The breakfast was also substantial and I was surprised. Curry in the morning is perfect for the morning. The small counter, which was stuck by the window of the room, became a bar counter for us who were drinking, and we had a fantastic night watching the snowstorm valley. But what was better than anything was the hospitality of the inn 々 including the mother. It is rare in a luxury inn to receive the sincere hospitality that has been so thorough. The next inn was decided to be kofushi, so I tried to come back on the next day, but it was a pity that it was not possible to realize it on the closing day. Ofushi was fun, but I think I will stay at the scenery hall and go to Ofushi next time.

Great location, super convenient to train station. In addition, there is a nearby 7-11 which allows for quick purchase of essential supplies. The hotel provides washer and dryer for guest to clean their clothes which is good at affordable pricing. Only downside is the room is really small but that is the norm is Tokyo, will get used to it.

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

Thanks Mr Shimaya and all the staff! We were 4 people and we spent two nights in this traditional Japanese-style room, very comfortable. All the essentials were present. The futons were very soft and warm. The room consisted of an entrance hall, a fairly large main room, a small room with shower, a sink, an outdoor room divided by paper walls with a table and two chairs and the necessary to make tea and enjoy the view of the panorama offered by Yudanaka, a small closet immediately alongside containing a toilet, and finally an external balcony. Inside the structure it is possible to have breakfast (we have not opted for this service so I cannot express myself on the matter), but the most important thing is the presence of an internal onsen (no mixed gender), that you can use how much do you want. It was beautyful. There is also the possibility of getting a very characteristic public onsen's key right behind the hotel. The first morning the Shimaya staff accompanied us to the Snow Monkey Park for free. In the early afternoon we have Booked the private onsen where you can go dressed a bit like in the pool, to bring even the most reluctant to bring this wonderful aspect of Japanese culture. Mr Shimaya was great to advice us for where tò eat or what to do nearby, and he was very kind with all of us. Thanks again from all 4 of us, we loved every minute spent there. ありがとう ！ ＜3
