What a dilemma leaving this review! This was truly an ambivalent experience. The short version: A+ hospitality, but not the experience we hoped for. Let's start with the pros: #1: hospitality. It truly is some of the best hospitality I've experienced staying at any hotel or air bnb. The hosts were very responsive, generous, and understanding of the problems with our stay. They were willing to do everything they could do accommodate our requests. It's for this reason alone I leave any stars at all. And for those that don't share the concerns I list below, it promises to be a great experience for you. #2: Location Vomero is beautiful. Weekend a Napoli is centrally located and, as first time travelers to Naples, it was the perfect starting point for us. Ok, so now the cons. #1 Smell. If you have any smell sensitivity to mold or mildew, this would be a challenge. There is a noticeable damp smell on entering the B&B. The hosts put scented oil in our room to combat this, but this exacerbated the issue. Our room smelled both like perfume and mildew. Whatever issue is causing the dampness could not be masked. We did observe some light, grey dots in the shower that I understood to be mold. maybe it doesn't bother everyone, but is a huge issue for me and my wife. We didn't know if we could continue our stay. To the hospitality point, the hosts were willing to do everything they could to find a solution, which was greatly appreciated. We did decide to complete our stay (2 days total), as the severity of the issue didn't rise to the level of the inconvenience of packing, traveling, and booking another hotel last minute for only one more day. #2 Value: While I understand Vomero is the "fancier" part of town, it did not seem that the room and amenities were worth the price. I had expected more of a "luxurious" feel for the price. The room is very simple in design and 'feel.' Amenities are minimal. Just not very warm or inviting. There's no real common area on the first floor either, which adds to the "budget" feeling. More importantly, the walls are extremely thin. We could hear our neighbor watching television as if it was in the room with us. Privacy seems sacrificed as a result. Breakfast too felt "budget." The room where you eat is nice, but with few fresh options and extremely limited selection it doesn't feel worth the price. This would not at all bother me for a budget stay, but at ~ $200 a night I expected more. This B&B has incredible reviews from other travelers and I don't doubt their experiences. The smell and value may very well be limited to our room. But, it felt necessary to share our experience for any other prospective guests looking for a "fancier stay" at this price point. Maybe the other rooms feel luxurious, or don't have mold issues, but unfortunately this was not our experience.
