Stayed for one week. Sea view room with balcony - a must! Fantastic breakfast - nothing is too much trouble for the staff. You ask for it and they will most probably be able to make it. Beach club area is fantastic - seaside beds with access to sea as well as two infinity pools. We did not use the spa facilities. Shout out to Francesco one of the porters, he was so helpful - not just with our luggage but with restaurant recommendations as well as local things to do. And always with a lovely smile and cheery hello. Twice daily room service. Huge comfy bed. What’s not to like about this place. We would return.

I’ve been staying in 5 star hotels since I first checked in to the Crillon in Paris in 1970 and the Meliá in Genoa is one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. Elegant decor, very comfortable and above all smiling and very efficient service. A particular thanks to Francesca, who went over and beyond a guest relations manager’s duty to organise perfect accommodation.

The outside of the building is a ”fine example” of 1980's architecture, i.e. grim! Our room was on the first floor, level with some ”feature” triangles in the roof, which served no purpose at all other than to spoil the view of the harbour! Upon entering reception the feel is very opulent. The reception staff were not particularly welcoming...but we were checking in around 10pm (that being the time our flight had landed). We were rather hoping for some food, but the kirchen closed at 10pm, so all we were offered was a ”Cheese Toastie” (which, although very welcoming, did rather strike me that the Hotel was not ”in tune” with flight times and the potential for guests to be checking in and not wanting to have to find a restaurant outside the hotel at that time of the night! The room was large, but had the air of a Hotel Room which had seen nearly 40 years of good servbice, wtihout a great deal of care and attention taken to its upkeep. For example, the built-in wardrobe/cupboard door did not open properly, there was a large scratch on the ”feature” wood panelling around the room and the tile grouting in the shower was black with mould in places. BUT...on the plus side, the air-conditioning worked...and was not too noisey, the room was big enough for the two of us. The bed was large (albeit a big ”squishy” for my liking and there was a kettle/coffee pod machine so we could make our own drinks. We were there for 5 nights, so it is important - in my book - that if you're payng those kind of prices that the room is perfect...It wasn't really perfect. Similarly, because of its location right next door to the Aquarium, there were a large number of small children there, obviously from rich families who were not massively adept at controlling them. We never ate uin the restaurant in the evening, but did take our drinks onto the terrace one evening, where lots of diners had booked a table outside. A famly with three children under 5 then arrived and they continued to scream, run about the place and generally make a relaxzing space very VERY stressful. We took our drinks inside and I happened to comment in my best(?) Italian that the children were beng too noisey...some minutes later the family came inside...and I thought we were going to ahve to move again, but they went out of the hotel altogether! Unfortunately, we were not able to move so quickly the next morning at breakfast, where there was the same family creating havoc in the breakfast area! Next time we will ahve to fnd a hotel which is ”Adults Only”...Being a father of two (now grown-up) children, we were constantly on alert so that our kids didn'6t cause disruption to anyone else around us...That - however - doesn't seem to be the ”European way”! Location-wise was amazing, right on the harbour quaryside. I recently had the pleasure of staying at the exquisite Grand Hotel Villa Balbi in Sestri Levante. It was an experience I will never forget. From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the stunning location and unparalleled hospitality this luxurious hotel offered. The hotel is in a magnificent historical villa, surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking the spectacular Ligurian Sea. The breathtaking views of the sea and the picturesque town of Sestri Levante made my stay even more memorable. Upon arrival, I was greeted by friendly and professional staff, attentive to my every need throughout my stay. Check-in was smooth and efficient. My room was delightful, with a plush, comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom with a rain shower. The room was immaculately clean, and the housekeeping staff went above and beyond to ensure it remained so during my stay. Breakfast was a lavish spread of freshly baked pastries, local cheeses, and various fruits and cereals, providing the perfect start to my day. I took advantage of the hotel's beautiful outdoor pool area. The pool area featured comfortable loungers, allowing for relaxing and soaking up the Mediterranean sun. The true highlight of my stay, however, was the exceptional service provided by the Grand Hotel Villa Balbi staff. They were always friendly, courteous, and eager to assist, making me feel at home. Their professionalism and attention to detail were commendable and contributed significantly to my overall experience. My stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Balbi in Sestri Levante was an unforgettable experience that exceeded my expectations. The stunning location, luxurious accommodations, and exceptional service create a magical and memorable getaway. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a luxurious and relaxing escape on the Italian Riviera.

If going to Genoa, this is a great place to be as it is directly outside the Brignole train station. Easy to get around as the metro is Free to use from 1000-1600 and 2000-2200. Do be aware this is not the Principal train station. Great restaurants all around. Short walk to MOG market . Best bed we had in Italy. Most were VERY frim, here the bed was soft and welcoming. Lots of pillows. Only down side was shower drain was slow and we flooded the bathroom the last day. They had this weird painted shower liner that was cracked but really didn't affect things other than how it looked. The breakfast was available and they had a lot of American style buffet as well as a mix of typical Italian breakfast. Great cappuccino. Also cute cafe right outside main door. ＜ 7 euros for 2 cappuccinos and 3 pastries.

Most people visit Portofino by ferryboat from Santa Margharita. They may stay for lunch or early dinner and then go back to their hotels away from Portofino. If you desire to experience Portofino at night it is best to stay overnight in one of the few hotels on location. In the evening the place quiets down and reveals its true charm. Fewer people patronize the restaurants. The ambience is truly extraordinary. We originally had booked a room at the Eight Hotel in Paraggi. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was only one room left and with our luggage it turned out to be too small for comfort. When we brought up the dilemma to the reception clerk we were immediately contacted by the hotel director, Christian. He offered us a bigger room at their sister hotel in Portofino at no additional conditions. He volunteered to have us taken there by a company clerk in their own limo - a rare, old Fiat 500 with two passenger rows. When we got there he had already moved there himself in order to be able to welcome us personally and to show us around the small, but intimate hotel. What a service! p.s. the hotel only serves breakfast, but is more than happy to refer you to the local restaurant scene.

The staff were all fantastic and very helpful at dealing with our requests, helping us book taxis etc. The room was clean and pleasant with a nice bathroom and shower, the continental breakfast buffet was great and the views from the pool were great. The booking system for the pool meant you had a guaranteed slot but could only use it once a day. It is a shame that it costs so much money to use the beach, particularly paying $50 for two sunbeds when there's only one of you. I would happily stay again if you could use the private beach for free as a guest.

The room was super nice! You can directly see the sea, and it is also close to the market, so it is very convenient to go anywhere. There are not many tourists in this small town, not as many as Genoa, very comfortable and peaceful, very, very recommended!
